Beautiful work on a historic piece! Very nice! I have the same question about the rim. What was your cleaning process for that?

That is fantastic work Dave. I remember a couple of years ago seeing another restoration similar to this one. http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/firethorn-beforeafter-resto#post-874018
I’ve always admired your work. Love the passion.

Awesome job ... looks great! That bowl looks squat. What are the bowl dimensions?
I bet the flavor profile that bowl gives up are great!

You my dear Sir. Are a hero! Hot heaven how beautiful you made those two pipes.

When I get my waxing game on, you will be one of the people I will try and copy.

You really resurrected each feature, the briar and its finish, the metal band, and the stem. It's hard to believe that under all that scaly crud there is a brand-new-looking stem breathing to be free. It's such a lithe flowing shape, it rewards the effort abundantly. I don't know if you smoke 'em or sell 'em, but that is one I'd want to keep.

Thank you everyone.
@mso
This one is a keeper. I’ve smoked a couple bowls since the restoration.
The Sterncrest and Firethorn models came with either solid gold or sterling band. This was well used but worth the effort. A tapered stem bulldog from Stern is a rare sight.
Here’s a Sterncrest with the solid gold band I acquired a few years ago.
