Lemmy, the lead singer and bassist of Motörhead died this evening of very aggressive cancer. Sad day for all metal heads!

    RIP Lemmy!!

Sad day, we lost one of the greats!

    Deaf Forever.

Mother earth, mother earth enfold you in her cold embrace
Sinking down, killing ground, worm crawling on your cold white face
Win or lose, nought to choose, all men are equal when their memory fades
No one knows, friends or foes, if Valhalla lies beyond the grave

Motorhead had a great sound, but I knew that one day it would be Dancing on Your Grave for Lemmy. That he lasted this long is a minor miracle. Another great one bites the dust. Stone Dead Forever. Killed by Death.

One of the only bands that could get away with making an entire career out of songs that all sound the same. And that's why they ruled.

Damn, Lemmy was great. One of a kind. RIP

    God speed Lemmy...

His music was the perfect and permanent background to my most rebellious years and this one of my all time favorite albums.

From what I read he was diagnosed on the 26th of December then died a few days later. Overall that's a pretty good death from cancer, I work in health care so I see what it does.

I wonder if he was a 'pipe' smoker?

From those who met him, yes, along with a whole lot of other things, but for him the bang was always more important than the mellow, so his drugs of choice lay more in that direction.

This is how I'll remember him -- the underrated and poetic first album:

A true rock & roll animal, I couldn't see him going out hooked up to IV's and such in a hospital.

I hope I never hear a Motorhead song in a car commmercial.

    One of my favorites.

Ive been spinning Hawkwind since yesterday in his honor. Space Ritual is one of their best albums IMO.

1916 was one of their high points for me. It and the first album have the most internal variety.

Generally I just listen to the live albums. They just about smell like sweat, whisky and mothballs.
