For those who write reviews, how did you learn to say and how to say it. Did you read other reviews and smoke the reviewed tobacco to see. I'm considering writing reviews about the ones I smoke on my new blog but I've never really reviewed one. I know how I would say it but are there proper terms to use and certain descriptors that are mass used?

I have been smoking a pipe for 30+ years and still can't write a review! All I can tell you about a tobacco is weather I like it or not! I couldn't write book reviews in school either, if the teacher asked my opinion on a assigned read all I could tell her was if I liked it or not.

When I review blends I usually just mention what I noted. Was the tobacco more moist or drier than usual in the tin? How well did it take the light and how well did it burn? Did it give tongue bite? If it's an aromatic how close to the tin description did the smoke taste? Those are the questions I ask myself before writing a review anywhere about a blend.

When I read a tin description, or see a jar of bulk tobacco at a B&M, I often wish I was with a friend who smoked
that blend and could tell me what to expect of it. So in my reviews I try to be that imaginary friend and try to
cover all the major properties such as: type of cut, strength, leaf content (if necessary), nicotine content,
smoothness, smoke volume, mouth feel, taste impressions, and etc. I invariably mention whether I liked it or not,
but I never consider that a very important issue. IMO it's best to use some sort of organizing principle; and many
reviewers take a stepwise approach by describing the experience from opening the tin to the very last puff.

I just sort of blurt out what I find about the particular tobacco.

If at first you don't succeed you are running about average.

Yeah, I'm pretty new to tobacco reviewing, but I have done other types of reviews and descriptive writing and it's best to just experience and then describe what your senses tell you. I also read what the makers say about it and then compare that to what is actually happening in my brain. I usually don't do a review unless the particular experience knocks me into a parallel universe somewhere. The blenders appreciate honest reviews, too.

Honestly I just do my reviews how I want to. What I mean is that I don't really follow a certain guideline like I do when I review cigars. Just how I do it though.

I don't like to toot my own horn, but check out this installment of my infrequently updated blog; used in conjunction with the advice Greg Pease offers in his "Reviews without Tears" article, you'll be well on your way!
