Here
Joking in another thread about a briar toilet seat got me thinking about the dimensional limits of briar.
What's the largest briar anyone has seen or heard of?
What's the largest object made of briar anyone has seen?
The Gilmer Wood Company website states that the heath plant ("shrub") needs to reach about 40 years of age, roughly 4-10" in diameter and 20-25 feet in height. This will produce a burl (the part between the root & the stem) somewhere between the size of a bowling ball and a basketball.
Pics essential, of course... :P
My anemic Google-Fu produced few examples.

That looks amazing and, tentatively, painful!
How big is it?
(It's not often one can ask another man the size of their wood without awkwardness... 8O )

There are spruce burls here the size of pickup trucks. Always been curious about briar too though, always wanted a bigass house pipe like a radice or ser jacopo magnum. Might commission a moretti when I can get back on the buying horse. Would love to see some giant pipe pics show up on this thread!!!
I know there is at least one guy out there with a yacht the size of a yacht :)
