   I know there was a thread about these, but I was skeptical about them. So of course I got one for the wife. I have my man cave, but it’s winter and the smell does work its way up. They have all kinds of fancy ones for too much money, so I picked up a small black ball one off amazon for $30, hell it even looks good with all my furniture being black. Then I took Old Cajun’s word on making your own mix. The mix they sell is such a rip off. So I got some of essential oils for $4, and some 91% Isoproyl Alcohol for $2 and put in about 40 drops of the oil into the bottle. Filled it 2/3 and fired the sucker up, and in an hour or so the smell was gone and cinnamon was in the air. Now she wants to try different ones lols.

   I’m determined to make a cool looking DIY one for the cave, going to hunt through the 25 years of junk I got stored everywhere…and if I don’t find something cool, I’ll be hitting the neighbors.
   But try them, beats the shit out of candles.

   How big a room does that one you have cover?

   A link of yours would be helpful too ... I can probably find a huge selection of oils at the health food store here.

   Like you, I only smoke in my "room" but have been getting hints (and a couple of those damn flowery scented plug-ins in the walls) about the "pipe smell" permeating in the main part of the house (it's open concept).

   I tried using a Lampe Berger in our flat, seemed to work OK to me, but the girlfriend said that the combination of the tobacco and lamp smell together smelled worse than just the tobacco on its own! Said it smelled like cigarette smoke

   I only used it in a small room in a small flat, other people swear by them, so in the future I'll try again

   The 91% Isopropyl Alcohol (important) you can get at a CVC or any drug store. In the 16oz bottle I put about 40+ drops. Buy the droper from the site for the bottle it's a buck, and you don't use much out of the oil. You have to get the Pure Essential Oils that's important too.

   I tried making my own scent (cedar and cinnamon) the cedar was pure oil, but the cinnamon was cheap and I think contributed to the lamp smoking a little bit! I will keep experimenting....

   Even the name brand oil isnt terribly expensive. I found I like to cut it with half iso alcohol, so that cuts the cost a bit..
   Seems a lot at first, but then a yankee candle is $30 so.. lol! I will still continue to experiment with diy oil... its dirt cheap.

   And I agree, these beat the shit out of candles. I was going to experiment with mine and post a little review/info on them

   Yeah, The Old Cajun was on the money, use only the 100% PURE ESSENTIAL OILS, they have all kinds of pre-mixes, or ones you can mix yourself. Just about 40 drops in 16oz. and let it burn 2 minutes, blow it out, put the cap on and it lasts hours. It works and thanks The Old Cajun

   Craig, I bought 40 yrs ago a small round pewter Lampe Berger , so they have a manly looking one, told my wife if we"re gonna have one I"m picking it out don"t want one that looks like it belongs in a whore house, to which my wife replied I"ve never been in a whorehoue , have you?    I went to the Tinderbox in Columbus, OH. to look at these. The gentleman who worked there said that they work very well, but can quickly become overwhelming. I'm concerned, as others have noted that the tobacco/scent mix would be too much, or that the scent from the Lampe Berger would be stifling. How do those of you who own them, keep them from getting too strong?

    I'm concerned, as others have noted that the tobacco/scent mix would be too much, or that the scent from the Lampe Berger would be stifling. How do those of you who own them, keep them from getting too strong?

    1. I have not noticed a bad combo of tobacco/oil scents... I find that the scent disperses quickly and pretty much rids the air of smokey-smells.

    2. To cut down on a potent scent, you can cut the oil with any amount of 91% isopropyl alcohol (found at any store).

    3. The instructions say to let the lampe burn for about 20 min (depending on room size), you then "snuff" the burner with an included cap. You can let the lampe burn for any duration of time... 5 min, 10 min.. when you think the smell is strong enough/dispersed enough, you put the cap back on, and it goes out quickly.

    Some scents are stronger than others, so it takes a little experimenting with how long to burn the lampe. I've learned to keep this in mind... it is't a candle, you cant just light it and leave it for an hour or so, it will definitely be too strong then. Rather, it quickly fills up a room with scent, so best to stay around it when it's let and remember to put it out after 20 min or so.

    If you mix your own (the only sensible thing) do not put a bunch of drops in the bottle of alcohol unless you want to limit yourself to just one scent. Just pour the alcohol into the lampe berger until it is 2/3rds full and use the eye dropper that will come with your scent and add two-three drops. If the scent is too strong just add a little alcohol to the lampe. If it is too weak just add another drop to the lampe.

    For clarity for the benefit of those who have never used one, Lampe Berger works by heating a stone wick, which burn off the alcohol and emits the scent. Once the stone wick becomes moist (as a result of wicking up the scented alcohol), you light the stone until it becomes hot (a few minutes is all it takes). You then blow out the flame. The rock will be extremely hot as a result of the flame. It is when the flame has been blown out and only the hot rock is working the most of the scent diffuses throughout the room. As indicated above, when you have had enough, you just put the cap on the hot rock. If you don't then all of the alcohol willburn off and evaporate and the room scent may become too strong.

    I have used one for years in my man cave and quite love it (as does the wife)

    @The Old Cajun Too funny! It’s true though, they’re from France and I guess that’s what most French lamps look like. The price is way too high for those fancy looking ones, and they all do the same thing. My little black ball fits the furniture in the living room perfect. I spent some time looking for something interesting and different (manly!) to make for the cave, so far not luck past a jazzed up mason jar to compliment the rest…But that’s too easy, only 1/3 of the way through my junk so yet to get to the real buried stuff.

    I didn’t want to back up their claim of actually removing the smell and scenting at the same time until my wife chimed in, and YES it does both. It does cut the smoke smell AND adds scent.

    There’re are 2 caps, one is a closed cap you use to keep the alcohol from evaporating or shutting the lamp down, and the stone stays hot for a long time, over an hour… Yeah touch the stove again analogy. The other is a diffusion cap that IMO keeps the stone hotter longer, and with the side slits works to push the sent outward and not just straight up.

    My wife is very pleased and checking out the other oils; I think that buying a different wick for each may be a good ideal. Even if left to dry the prior oil will still be in the wick. They’re cheap you can get them off Ebay for about $4 free shipping.

    All in all for me, it’s something new, something cool, it works and it makes the wife happy.
