I had been eyeballing this pipe for a week or so and finally decided to make an offer on it. Much to my happy surprise he accepted it with no come back. Here is how he described the nomenclature.

Dunhill Shell Briar LB F/T

Made in England 7 8 (4)S

from 1957/58
The pipe is supposed to be rare because it is a 9mm filter pipe? The seller is from Germany and they are well known for their love of 9mm pipes. I have owned quite a few from Winslow and loved how the smoked without the filter or adapter.

Here are some pics.

LOL, I had a feeling it wasn't a 57 because of the price I paid. I low balled the guy and he accepted right away. I am still glad I have it coming because I really like that shape and the pipe looks to be in great condition.

Congratulations! I'm not a fan of Dunhill filter pipes without the filter, but if it works for you, there might be some good deals out there for you.

You bought a Dunhill that smokes well at a good price. It may not be your birth year, but it sounds like your lucky day.
