I've heard passing references to some pipe making, or aspects of it, done in Spain. But I've never seen pipes stamped "Made In Spain" nor heard of any Spanish brands. Is this just a workshop or two doing contract work for brands in Italy or France? Or is Spain making some pipes? And if so, where are there? I'm not longing for a pipe from Spain. sable' has pretty much put me off trusting pipe stamps for national origin (he doesn't believe them and now I don't either). But I'd be interested to know if Spain has pipe factories, and if so, where.

It would not surprise me if there were pipes made in Spain. There economy's in the dumpers and they have a lot of old world craftsmen. Could be great source of cheap labor.

Tobacco pipes are not exactly a growth industry, but for a niche artisan workshop or small factory in low overhead space, it could work. I think marketing is the biggest challenge. Even Dr. Grabow, you have to work to find out about their special edition pipes; spreading the word isn't their forte. If they could find a home grown "computer kid" up there in Sparta, she or he might generate serious sales ... if that's even wanted. Other pockets of underemployed folks might get hold of pipe making, but they'd have to tap into the market; the market doesn't come to you. It's very spread out, and is largely available online.

I have heard for years that Peterson bowls are turned in Spain, but none of my inquiries to Peterson have been answered.

Didnt know that Bruken produced bowls for Peterson - Thats pretty neat. I have bought briar from them before in both turned bowls and plateaux/ebauchon block form. Good stuff.

pipemaker1, interesting! It sounds like Spain is significantly invested in pipe making but in a supporting role rather than with Spanish brands and visibility. However, from what you describe, definitely in the game.

I have two pipes in my collection that were made in Spain. They are estates so I don't know which factories they may have come from. The "Bamboo Briar" pipes seems to be pretty common. I like the size and feel of that one.

Last night I was idly looking through pipes on eBay, when I saw one described as being made by a Spanish carver. It was awaiting someone to make an opening bid of $450.00.
