I recently put two tins of Dunhill Aperitif from 2007 up for auction on eBay. (I picked up six tins back in 2007 then discovered I just didn't care for the blend. These were my last remaining tins.) They ended up selling for much more than I'd expected.
About two weeks ago I sold a 2007 tin of Aperitif for $41. But these recent two tins ended up selling for $71 and $83! I was flabbergasted when the auction ended. I've never seen prices like that for any 2000-era blend other than the GLPease Syrian blends. (Even Penzance doesn't get that high for a 50g tin.)
I can't helping pointing out that I did offer these three tins for sale here before posting them to eBay: $100 for all three. So someone missed out on making a quick profit of almost $100. . . :)

That's nuts Bob. I felt bad for spending $50 on 90's tins of Durbar. I'm starting to feel better about my purchase

I had a tin of 1999 Durbar a couple of years ago, and that blend was absolutely transcendent for me. $50/tin would be a bargain, IMO.

Yeah, $3 a bowl is a bargain for transcendency. I'm sitting on two tins and waiting for a special occasion to pop one. Glad to hear it's that good.

Well, it was that good for me. Of course, you may respond differently.
I've got 4 more tins of the 1999 in the cellar, and there's no guarantee it'll even be "that good" for me again. I'm definitely hopeful, though!

I haven't tried the new Durbar -- haven't even seen it on Smoking Pipes Web site yet.

Well, to be fair to a humble tobacco, Dunhill isn't claiming that the older Durbar is transcendent; that was just my perception of a truly memorable tin. ;)

BTW, just to show that not every blend is highly sought on eBay, at the same time I was selling the Aperitif I was also selling an 8oz tin of C&D's Yale Mixture from 2007. That one went for only $30. . . which, if I'm remembering correctly, is actually less than I paid for it. (And I offered free shipping, to boot.)
That's the only blend I've sold that ended up selling for a loss. Everything else -- and I've sold fewer than a dozen tins on eBay -- has yielded profits ranging from 100% to 900%.

Wouldn't surprise me if that tin could hit original Balkan Sobranie prices. . . but it really all depends on the buyer. A couple of weeks ago, "eBay" told me that a 2007 tin of Aperitif was worth $41. This week, it told me it was worth twice that. Next week, it might not sell at all. Who can know the mysterious ways of the 'Bay?

+1 Arno. I like watching the prices of tins on ebay.
Congrats Bob!
I have one tin of Aperitif left from the 90's. Been saving it for a special occasion.
