After smoking a pipe I usually insert a pipe cleaner and leave it there until I smoke it again. Then I wondered just who invented this simple tool. Below is what I found out.
John Harry Stedman and his business partner, Charles Angel, invented pipe cleaners in the early 1900's. Stedman also developed the precursor to modern day bus transfer tickets. In 1913, Stedman reintroduced the custom of placing lighted candles in windows during the Christmas season.

It is amazing to think that everything we use on a daily basis, was painstakingly invented by someone at some point in history. Even the simplest items have lots of trial and error involved in their invention/production.
