Just received a small Iwan Reiss Jacques billiard from eBay. After a few days of cleaning, I finally filled it with Early Morning. What a nice little pipe! Smoked down to the bottom of the bowl, and the "little pipe that could" responded like a champ! A great smoke, and an even better investment of $18.00!

Congratulations on your find! It just goes to show that a pipe need not be expensive, a classic marque, nor artisan-made to be a good smoker. I hope that this will be a "magic pipe" for you, one in which any pipe-tobacco smokes well.
Incidentally, it's Iwan Ries & Co. (the best thing about Chicago).

I don't know what vintage Iwan Ries house pipe you have, but for many years they had Bentons with (I think it was) Algerian briar, very nice pipes. Some were compact and others were rather large but still light weight. Now they have Italian pipes but I don't know who makes them.

I have three IRC pipes,of various vintages. They're all about Dunhill Group 3 in size, and are fine smokers.
