If You Had To Pick A Perfect $100 Pipe, what would you pick? Let's keep it in the $75-$150 range. I'm interested in spending some bucks on the perfect pipe. :) LOL, I know there is not such a beast, but would love to know your thoughts.

Lots of Savelli pipes in that range. Never go wrong with them.
I recently got my first Nording pipe. The freehand is still growing on me but it smokes very well.

Peterson is a right good pipe, at least for me. I hear that their quality control has suffered a wee bit of recent. Are you looking for the perfect everyday pipe or that perfect pipe that you keep hidden from friends and only pop out when you need that "Perfect time and Place" moment? The kind that only see the flame when the time is right.

I am a big fan of Peterson Pipes too. That said, I think there's greater consistency with Stanwell (Danish made versions, no idea about the new Italian made ones). Finding a Danish made one may be a little tricky these days. One shop I've bought from with success and may have some Danish versions (either estate or new) is:
http://www.bisgaard-pipes.com/
Otherwise, can check ebay (but of course you have to be careful there).

A well cleaned and ready to smoke Estate pipe of your choice.
From the current batch at Smokingpipes.com right now I'd consider:

English Factory - http://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/estate/england/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=139481
Obligatory Peterson - http://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/estate/ireland/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=142562
Danish Maker - http://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/estate/denmark/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=133308
Italian Maker - http://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/estate/italy/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=141355

+1 on the Stanwell. I Have been a huge Peterson,Boswell,Savinelli fan for a long time. I shot from the hip on a stanwell few months ago, and I love it. Now I have 4. Three shape 97 and a 2010 pipe of the year I just got from P&C the other day for 79.99 in the gargae sale area, 300.00 pipe for 79.99. not bad!

I like Johs pipes very much, both for design and quality. I think highly of Neerup, although the large bowl and thin shank/stem

configuration isn't most appealing to me. Chacom makes some fine pipes in this range, as does BC, of course Savenelli. I

especially like Savenelli Oscar Lucite series for being non-filtered and for bright stains and stems, but that's just me. You can't go

wrong with Stanwell, and from my experience with one pipe, I'd say the Italian-made Stanwells are just fine. So I think you

have a lot of leeway for shopping, and these are just the new pipe picks. With estate pipes, you could reach a little higher

level original price pipe, but I'd stick with the professionally sanitized and restored pipes, like smokingpipes.com. I am

completely happy with all five of my Petersons, but there has been some grumbling lately about quality. You can still get

quite a few of those at the $100 mark.

Honestly, I have had such good luck scoring great new and estate pipes from Ebay I would take $100-150 and wait 'til i found a good or great deal. You might have to do the research to make sure you are getting a good deal, but that is half(at least!) the fun for me, searching and hunting down the pipes that are forgotten about or are being sold by lesser known sellers putting them up for auction. Yes Pete's and Sav's and Stanny's are great and all and i own 3 of the former and 2 of the latter, all of which were bought brand new from b&m's or other retail pipe websites. But IMHO, I have found BETTER pipes in this range by being patient and keeping a close eye on Ebay.
I acquired at least half of my pipes this way and most were in this price range, but were worth potentially far more than what i bought them for. I don't think there is one, really, that i regret buying and that isn't a good smoker. The Stanny's have a 9mm filter that i'd rather do without, but i deal with it and they are still great smoker's regardless. They were some of my first pipes and i really didn't know any better.

One more vote... for a measly $16 more than the $150 upper limit you could have one of Trevor Talbert Ligne Bretagne pipes. These are old French stummels that are stemmed and finished by hand, by one of the the US premier carvers. Not a bad find for $166.00.

Savinelli Tortuga or Oscar Tiger

Peterson - any 999 shape (bulldog) - Kildare is my favorite
That said, "perfect" is subjective. Good Luck!

Great stuff, guys. Gotta love the wealth of knowledge and experience around this forum. I know there is not a "perfect" pipe for everyone. This is just to sort of get an idea of the best choices that we might make. Also, maybe to expand the discussion, What is the Worst $100 pipe you have ever bought?

Also, my preference would be NO Filter. I'm not a fan of the filtered pipes, so I'm not interested in plopping down my funds for a pipe with filters. That's just me. I've got two that I smoke without the filter in them but they are -way down- on my enjoyment list.

The Savs have a balsa filters. They were the first filtered pipe I ever owned, and are a dry, cool smoke.

Since I already have a Stanwell Zebrano, I'd probably get a Savinelli in that range next. I've had my eye on a 320KS Author shape, just deciding on the finish at this point...

Personally out of my collection the best smoker I have in the price range of $75-$150 is my estate Peterson Irish Harp B11 that I just picked up for $90. The folks at smokingpipes.com did a wonderful job cleaning her up. She looks brand new. Smokes like a dream. Best balanced and lightest pipe I have. The draw is absolutely perfect! You can get an Irish Harp brand new for around $140 I believe.
As mentioned though you really can't go wrong with any Savinelli, Peterson, or Stanwell in that price range.

I will go for Neerup group 2 to 4 freehand or poker. I might be going PNC next month.

This month I made fill up with some TAD already. They had very good Friday sale on last week.

My vote for the best $100 pipe is a Savinelli Noce that comes with 2 stems.

SmokingPipes wants $192 for it (just 1 stem), but IRC has it on sale for $108 (with 2 stems)!

I would buy something in Peterson's Donegal Rocky series if you prefer rustic, or Peterson's Dublin Castle series if you prefer sandblast. For smooth I would suggest buying an Estate Peterson, possibly in their System Premier line of pipes.
