That's a really well done hickory nut. Rad Davis was a hickory nut wizard. Your slot work looks great. Nice job all the way around. The only thing I would change would be to pull back a little on the sides of the shield so that the ridges hug closer to the sides of the pipe a just a tiny bit more versus sitting so far forward. Again, nice job.

It's a very nice pipe. Obviously the first picture is misleading and made me think of it as being more "roundy" but what a surprise when looking at the second. That "flat" side is really nice. I don't really know if it's common or not, so when I saw I thought it was very original.

I like the black texture !!
