Plug,tobacco,jacknife plug
I found an old cast iron tobacco shredder today and purchased the thing. I can rember seeing these when I was a kid in Kentucy. They were mounted on the counter usually close to the plug cutter. They would cut the required amount off of a big brick of tobacco and put in the hopper....turn the crank handle and shredded pipe or cigarette tobacco came out the other end. Guess I will have to order a tin of jacknife plug and try it out.
No pictures of it yet...still hiding it from Helga.

Local antique store had an old cast iron plug cutter a few months back. Damn thing was huge!

Mind, I'm picturing the smallish squares of plug that's currently sold when I say huge. Guillotine affair with blades perhaps 8 inches long and the handle was prolly a foot and a half.

It was gone the next time I went in of course.
Sounds as though you got yourself a great bit of history there drsam, looking forward to the pics!!
