howdie everyone. Let me tell you a little about myself. The name gulfcowboy comes from the fact I work as a merchant mariner, and my family has a ranch in texas. I have always held a affection for pipe smoking from my grandfather like most pipe smokers. He himself a personal hero of mine. He was a ww2 naval pilot, and after the war crop duster. I have on occasion enjoyed a pipe or cigar with my father. Coming into my thirtys now I tend to enjoy my quite time and relaxing a little more. I believe that pipe smoking would be great in that area. I would like to futher my knowledge in pipe smoking. I also plan on visiting the briar shoppe in Houston even though its a bit of drive.

Welcome, Gulfcowboy. I'm way up here in Fort Worth. Always good to see another Texan join us.
I would like to futher my knowledge in pipe smoking.
Well, you certainly came to the right place. Although there are many differences of opinion, most of us agree on most things... such as Texas BBQ is far superior to any other BBQ... and that Texas mosquitos are the size of an F16... well they might not agree on the BBQ and they might not believe that bit about our mosquitos. But you and I, and other Texans here know the truth. Seriously though, there's a ton of knowledge to be had here. Welcome!

Welcome aboard ... which is really appropriate in your case! This is a good crowd for pipe questions as you develop your interest. Lots of expertise from carvers, blenders, pipe historians, specialists in various brands of pipes, plus centuries of experience in pipe smoking in general. So feel free to ask questions, and don't prejudge your questions as dumb -- lots of discussion arises from basic questions.
