At 62 years old I sometimes wonder if I am a bit aged to take up the pipe again.

I wonder the age of all the posters here. How old is everyone?

36 and started on the pipe when I was 30. Had been a cigarette smoker since I was 15. As for being too old to smoke a pipe, well, excuse my being blunt but bollocks Honestly, I'm not quite sure what you mean by being too old. Normally people seem to ponder being too young to smoke one. Anyway, it's my belief that A little of what you enjoy does more good than bad.

Your only as old at the person you feel, so according to her I am 512 million years old. I still remember my first pipe, it was mastidon bone with a bronze accent and a stem made out of raptor claw. We would trade sabertooth hides with the nieghboring tribe for tobacco. They had some of best Conan's leaf on the Coast. Our favorite was a mix of Atlantian burleys mixed with Conan's leaf aged for four seasons of the three moons in the sky. Then we would cure them in the back cave over smoldering oak and Polisaurs bones. After four seasons of aging we would bring out the now sacred leaf of manness and womenness while the three moons of the goddess hung over head. Then while skyclad we would all light the first flame of piping goodness and sit down on our rocks to contiplate the meaning of life.

Wow, you guys are mostly young sprouts and sports. Compared to me, mostly. Took up pipes in my thirties when my late wife had a multi-pack nail habit, then gave it up when she quit smoking, except for me smoking cigars when I was on business trips. Remarried as a widower and took up the pipe when my wife was in rehab after hip surgery--told her she'd driven me to Cavendish (just because the word sounded funnier in context). My wife gave up camels in her 30's/early 40's, but is supportive of my pipes, buys me beautiful pipes and has an uncanny sense in gifting me with tobacco. My exact age is unknown ... ha.

42 come next month. Life's too long.

BTW, for those wondering if they're too old to pick up pipe smoking, I read yesterday that "[b]etween 16 and 96 years of age the epithelial layer of cells on the surface of the tongue undergoes a 30% reduction in thickness, whilst the basal cell layer remains the same. This is interesting as it coincides with the progressive reduction in tongue coating associated with old age"**. No wonder I have tongue bite every time—I just started smoking a pipe ~4 months ago.

On the other hand, continuous pipe smoking might force the body to keep the coating thick, kinda like those who never stop drinking milk don't develop lactose intolerance. Who knows? Pipe away I say.

53 yrs old; born in 1965 and smoking a pipe since 1990 when I was 24-25.

After some time he felt for his pipe. It was not broken, and that was something. Then he felt for his pouch, and there was some tobacco in it, and that was something more. Then he felt for matches and he could not find any at all, and that shattered his hopes completely.

As near as I can tell everyone is about 228 billion years old. That assumes a mean age of 30 and a world population of about 7.6 billion.

For purposes of this analysis I'm excluding the dead; narrow-minded I know.

Unless you're Jack Benny, in which case it's 39.

I’m 43, bought my first pipe during the summer of 1990.

49 and I have been smoking a pipe for 5 years.
By now my wife has just accepted that it's part of me and who I am, she used to nag me about it, but now she doesn't even seem to notice.

I'm 70 years young. After 40 years of not smoking I took up the pipe again 3 years ago.

    I don't know where I'm going...but sooner or later I'll get there.
