    His fault...

    1. Extremely brief description, no sales pitch at all

    Unsmoked Dunhill Cumberland

    2. Not very good photos

    My risk ...

    1. Seller only had 4 total transactions

    2. I hate to throw money away for someone's possible scam (the seller was honest, no scam, just uninformed)

My reward $140.00 shipped from Canada

ok, now I am really finished on Ebay.... for a while!

I'd say you did pretty good! $140 (shipped), for an un-smoked Dunnie.

Some Dunny folks don't like Shells, but you sure beat the Dunhill price racket, handsomely. I hope it is a perfect pipe for your purposes. Ebay is a casino, but you hit the win.

Some days your the windshield and some days your the bug, I never have a problem with poorly written eBay items, some of the best bamboo fly rods, fly reels and pipes have come from poorly written auctions. I do take the time to ask a few questions and generally it’s an uninformed person and you can usually get the gut feeling of if you will pursue the item or not, I’m happy for you that you pursued that Dunhill, may it reward you with many memories and fine smokes.

Is that after working on it or did it arrive all spiffy looking.
EBay is a trip. I saw someone selling a waiters corkscrew listed as pipe tamper with cleaning tool and bottle opener.. and I especially love those inflatable lighters from China...

It arrived pretty much as shown, it did just wipe it down with a cloth before taking photos. Even the inner tube was in the (Peterson) box when I opened it.

Nice blast on that pipe! Congrats on the score. 1982?

Thank you, I am very happy.

Yes, 1982 Cumberland 42031. The extra 1 at the end, does that mean a variation on the size or shaping?

Someone at Dunhill probably knew what it meant as some time or another. It's been suggested that it's some kind of stocking number, or an indication of a slight variation of the bowl shape, but none of the posters putting forth their theory knew for certain.

Incredible! It's amazing how much good-quality photos affect the sale value of an item (just ask anyone who does real estate staging for a living).

That's one hell of a score! I think the Cumberland was born in 1980, so that's an early one...... Congrats!

That is a great buy though I would never buy another. I'm wondering however about that rough edge in the chamber bevel and swirls inside of the chamber. Reamed?

I don't know if it still applies anymore, but good ebay deals could alsways be found if you misspelled the words in the search bar. Sellers in a hurry to post things up made spelling errors and therefore their item wouldn't show up in searches, e.g. Volkswagon instead of Volkswagen.

Mis-spellings, fuzzy picures, inaccurate name listings, all lead to great deals on Ebay, albeit with a bit of risk.

The good news is your seller took returns, so that mitigates much of the risk.

I live an hour from Cumberland Maryland.I worked there with three restaurants for many years. We still have one right off I-68. I guess the Rocky Gap Casino is the main draw there now, and perhaps the Western Maryland Scenic railroad.

Delfest during Memorial Day week/weekend is probably the biggest draw of the year. My profile pic is from there, I am one of the "house" photographers for the festival. I really do love going back home. Anyone who loves Bluegrass and all the variations emerging, should check it out. Family friendly and amazingly clean, great music, good food... I love it. Thanks Al!

    Gorgeous pipe!

I had a similar experience recently with a seller from Cairo on Etsy. Crummy photos and no feedback on Etsy but some on eBay where he had it listed as well. I took a small chance and got an smoked 1956 Tanshell billiard for $200.
