I frequently tell myself I can't open anything new until I smoke down the stock of currently open tins.
I don't think I'm doing too good as I just counted 32 open tins.
How many open tins do you have?

Usually two and never more than three. Kevin, you have a problem.
5 open right now.
it would have been 13 but the other 8 i ended up moving over to jars.
Four I think.
13 open tins and 27 open mason jars =p.
One open tin, one open carafe, half-a-dozen baggies of various samples I've received in the last week or two, and 23 jars on the go at the moment...although some of those are down to the last bowl.
I count 10 here-
all my tins go into jars
Wow Kevin, 32 tins? I'd feel lucky if I had 32 tins of baccy, much less 32 open ones!
For the record, I have just 3 open now.

6, I better get to business
2 tins and 26 jars in active rotation just now.
I've been attempting the same, namely, reducing that number. No joy here either, just opened another jar of Kendal Kentucky last night....
Not a problem though, wondrous variety!
5 tins, 2 jars, and 4 or 5 baggies.
I envy you, Kevin.
2 tins and countless jars
2 tins....Get this....57 mason jars! I know,I know, but when you all right about a good tobacco,I have to try it!
3 tins and 9 jars... I have four new tins that I desperately want to try but feel like I should wait until the current three tins are empty, first. The jars have anywhere from 4-16oz each so I figure that will take forever to finish and doesn't count. Plus the jars have my bulk go to tobaccos like Penzance, Cherry Bomb and 1Q. I buy tins for variety.
Way too many lol. I have a number of blends that I've put into mason jars. Just don't have enough jars to transfer over some of the new stuff. There's probably a dozen or so tins just laying around of which probably 8 or 9 are open.
Lets see.... I have 7 open tins, 10 mason jars, and 50 bowl to 2 bowl samples... not too much!
OK, I'm going with only open tins and not tins that have been transferred to Mason Jars. Also, I'm not including any bulk which hasn't been transferred to jars yet.
13 open tins. Most are going to be put into Mason jars when I get some more half-pint ones since the quart ones would be overkill. The more appropriate question would be, "How many tins do you have that aren't open?" The answer there is easy. Zero.

Dang it, just opened another while reading this. I have about 10 tins, 3 or 4 soft pouches, and about 10 mason jars open. I think I'm going to try and reduce the open tin count by putting the tins into jars....then ba bing.....no open tins and I can open more.
8 tins, bout a half dozen pouches/baggies, and a large bail top with 1Q.
BULK OPEN
1. Frangelico (Tinder Box) 12/2008
2. Bogafalaya Blend (Jewels)
3. Connoisseur (Tinderbox) 1/2011
4. Sherlock’s Choice (Tinderbox) 1/2011
5. Townsman Cavendish Blue (Maple)- McClelland Purchased 4/2009
6. Crooner (C&;D) 6/11
7. Three Blind Moose 7/11
8. Lane 1Q 7/11
9. Goedewaagen 7/11
10. Black and Gold (Supervalue) 12/09
OPEN TINS
Royal Cajun Black (McClelland) in a jar to blend with something lighter.
Dark Star (McClelland) 5/09
Penzance 7/11
Erimore Mixture
Tinderbox 1928 Special Reserve.
Im only working on 4 now, and those have been going for quite a little while now.

I usually keep one Aro and one Eng tin open at home and at the cabin.
Unopened -
76 tins unopened
3 - pouches unopened
Add to the OPENED count of 32 tins -
5 pouches
13 bulk baggies
I need more time to smoke.
I have 5 open tins, several little baggies of stuff, 15 mason jars, and a couple 1lb canisters of Vintage Syrian.
I only have one open at this time. I would say I only have at most 2 tins at a time.
I move stuff out of the tins and into jars as soon as I pop 'em, so no open tins technically. But I do have 5 different tin blends on the go: Vintage Syrian, FMOTT, Blue Note, X Sweet Mystery, Eileen's Dream, plus three bulk blends: Colombian Mocha, Raspberry Cream and 1-Q.
Simon
I think I have 6 tins open at the moment, but I've only been smoking for 12 days, plus I have at least 10 bags of samples from Peretti's.
2 open tins, one of Blue Note and another of Bill Baileys Balkan Blend
I should clarify my statement earlier. I have 10 "unopened" tins, but they are cellared so I don't really count them.
-Jason
About the same as you Kevin, but mine are in jars. I open all tins when I get them and transfer them to jars.
10 or 12 tins and about 6 jars and a bunch of bags...
I think 4 or five... Sillem's Copenhage, still have a bit of Sillem's Black left, Anniversay Kake, and a couple of blends from my (awesome) local tobacco shop (Davis & Sons in NC).....
I try to do the same. I have about 36 mason jars with remnants of tins in them but I have yet to open a brand new tin in months. I just smoke from the jar with the least amount and work my way up to the fullest.
I am sitting on an unopened tin of Black House because I declared I would first finish off all the other half empty tins I have strewn about. I suspect I will cave in and open it soon...
You should! It's awesome!
-Jason
No more than 1 tin or jar at a time. The discipline to do that is almost impossible considering the amount of tobacco im sitting on.
Typically, I have between five to seven open tins on my desk. English for mornings, Va/Per's for the remainder of the day.
6 tins opened and 18 mason jars
4 tins open...!

Seen your posts of your cellar. The discipline you display goes beyond "almost impossible"! (-;
atwageman: Send me your tins so the temptation to open them is lessened. I PROMISE I won't molest your tins (much).

10 Mason Jars (medium and Large)
14 Tins opened (well preserved)
a couple of pouches
But too many tins are waiting... the reason is that 24hrs in a day isn't enough
Got to get earlier in the morning...
(Justice for smokers)
14 open, 70 cellared, and a bunch more i just haven't inventoried yet.
great thread, incidentally, as i'd been wondering this myself for a while.
4 mason jars
2 tins
Just added two more. Peterson Sherlock Holmes and Peterson Irish Oak
15 open tins, and 14 that I just put in the mason jar. Those are m smoking tobacco though the rest is in a cellar.
stupid question, but for how long do a tin opened bacy stay "fresh" if keep in "normal condition" (in the tin ~ 68 ºF)
not a stupid question, but a stupid answer instead: it depends.
hope that helps.
3 opened tins, 50 unopened tins,30 mason jars and about 20 baggies of tobacco i need to transfer to the mason jars
All of 'em! Got a small repertoire right now, but as I am a home canner and brewer, I got mason jars begging to be filled with delicious leaf!
4 tins and countless bags of bulk.
