Hello UK pipe lovers. I have this Dunhill and I would like some more information on it. Learning how to read Dunhill nomenclature for me, is much like me trying to teach myself Japanese. Any correct information would be appreciated.
Stamping reads:
85 DUNHILL MADE IN (3)T

TANSHELL ENGLAND1
I know that the 3 is the group number. The group number has something to do with the size. The "T" stands for Tanshell (the lowest grade of briar for Dunhill). The number 1 at the end of England can tell me what year the pipe was made in acording to the size of the number??
Anyway, if you are so inclined, here are some links to photos for a closer look.
I think the stem is a replacement.

1961. Is the white dot off the center line, or is that just the picture?

the 1 is 1961. A '51 would have a patent number and is before Tanshells anyway. A '71 would be 11. It doesn't have an F/T stamp so it should have a straight or tapered stem. From what I see in the pics though, the button doesn't look quite right. But a different angle might show it to be okay.

The dot is definetly off center. I got it in a large set of estate pipes. Some of them had replacement stems done badly. It's a shame to see a Dunnhill with such a crappy stem. I have a possible buyer that makes his own stems. Any ideas on ballpark figures I can reasonably ask for the bowl only?
