Haven't heard of them ut after looking at a couple on the web I'd be careful. They call the calabash a porcelin pipe. I've never smoked a porcelin pipe but I would think that the bowl would get very hot. You really want to get a calabash with a meer bowl to fully enjoy the smoke. Based on the prices I saw you'd be disappointed.
I can't find the wood anywhere online. Could be anything from mahogany to piss elm. I own two calabashes with meerschaum bowls and one with the ceramic bowl. As for the coolness of the smoke. I see little or no difference. I rarely smoke any as they are large and clumsy. My pipe holding hand finds them exactly the right size to cause pain in my thumb joint.
