This pipe is made from a guava branch. One side is indented (3trd picture )

because the wood peeled away from the heart Just C. wax on it.

Nope

When I 1st looked at your post there was no image at all, just an incomplete url for one of the pics, my "reply" was the pic!
For a real reply, hey! I like this pipe Joe.

I know you said it's from a branch but it puts me in mind of a large seed of some kind. Organic, real, living.

A quick google search shows an outfit from Hawaii that sells guava wood for BBQ smoking wood. If you can eat food that has been smoked with guava wood, I don't see any problem smoking a pipe from guava. Most fruit woods are safe. My concern is that the pipe has the pith of the branch in it. That is where 99% of the cracks will start. Enjoy the pipe, but don't be surprised when it cracks.

Whenever a given wood is questioned as to if it's "safe" to use as I pipe it usually occurs to me most issues would be incurred during the carving and shaping.

Exposure to the dust produced would seem to be much more problematic than the smoking afterwards.
Don't know of course, just rambling...

Thanks guys,

Of the twenty pipes that I made ,I have smoked maybe three of them.

The rest of the time it is manufactured brier. Guava is a BBQ wood.

This is something that I like to do. It ain't going to get any better.

there is a post of a list of wood and their toxins in every day use on this site.

After breathing sulfur fumes on a fight deck of a carrier and working in an automotive

machine shop and a reline brake shop, A Little puff ain't going to hurt none.
