Here's a thread for you to post your favorite live music performances. I am trying to find stuff that is really live, not lip-synced...
Because as Neil Young once said, "LIVE MUSIC ARE BETTER!!"
The first is Stevie Wonder kicking out the jams on Sesame Street (along with a very young Ray Parker Jr. on guitar)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ul7X5js1vE
The next is Peter Frampton on Midnight Special in 1975 playing the entire "Do You Feel Like We Do"

And the third for you is Ozark Mountain Daredevils' "Jackie Blue" from the Old Grey Whistle Test, I love the ending of this - it gets very jazzy:

Friday Night in San Francisco, The Guitar Trio (McGlaughlin, DiMeola, DeLucia). Many refer to this as the greatest live performance ever. Here is the first song played, Mediterranean Sundance

EDIT: Actually, this must Thursday Night in San Francisco. There are different improvisations from the (live) album version of this song. I know there was a three night long stretch of performance, so this might be another night. But you all get the point. These guys killed the performance.
Here is a reunion version of the song, 34 years after the original. Slower, but still full of awesomeness:

Amazing stuff Tom!
Live Steely Dan is rarer than Sasquatch meat, but here's a 1995 performance of Josie from Letterman:

Here's Foreigner, and I'm telling you right now, if these guys seemed wimpy to you, check this out - they are hitting it HARD here.

Okay so this is what I meant by "great" - one of the best live things ever - U2 at Live Aid

The best ever.. plain and simple. I was in the audience during the European tour of the Division Bell in 1994. Belgium, September 2nd, 1994. Having worked a lot of concerts in high school and college (including a young Irish band named after a spy plane), I declined since I wanted to be in the audience for this one.
I was standing about the same distance from the stage as the globe. When that thing lit up and opened up I recall every single strand of hair on my body just plain standing up. And yes, I consider it a live performance since the live version is close to 10 minutes, while the studio version on the "The Wall" album is only 6. The movie Pulse, from which this fragment comes, was filmed during that tour. Epic stuff.. plain epic.
Second great memory was in Wembley stadium, 1986. (I'll buy you a beer if you find me in the crowd ;-) ) One of the greatest voices in Rock and Roll history. Combined with a fantastic guitar player. You can watch the whole thing online as well, but I forwarded it to start at probably their most recognizable song. Enjoy. (The forward doesn't work apparently when embedding. You can forward to 1H and 16M or copy this "www.youtube.com/watch?v=uh9oUHO2dxE&feature=youtu.be&t=1h16m02s")

I had to add this one: Eric Johnson's first live performance of Cliffs of Dover on Austin City Limits. Slightly different from the album version. I don't know why, but this song really lifts my mood.
