Ok I'm a first grade novice really but something I've discovered is if I use my little finger to pack I get a really nicely packed bowl. If there's a name for my packing method I don't know it - I let the tobacco fall into the bowl and use my pinkie to pack till I have a nice springy bed of the good stuff.
