Whoever carved those faces and the eagle was an extremely talented artisan.

From reading the description I got the impression that it was a briar rescue. It opens beer and the price of saving a nice carving from the fireplace is noble.

That's the best I can do off the top of my head.

Does that look like briar to anyone ? Just looks like some tree limb he cut in the backyard. I got the impression the seller doesn't know what briar is, except that its what pipes are made out of.
