I have a sweet Georg Jensen pipe that I bought new recently (12 years old unsmoked)
But if I could get a stem about an inch longer with a wider bit / lip - I would love it. The pipe is a little shorter than I'm used to, and the bit is about 1/2" wide. It's a beautiful 3/4 bent Dublin.
Would it practical to get another stem made? And who should I contact - seems it might be a PIA job for a pipe artisan.

Replacement stems decrease the value of a pipe, but for those of us who buy a pipe strictly for its value as a smoker, this doesn't matter. Identify a talented pipe repair person and tell them exactly what you want. I recently was gifted with a Thompson Cigar house pipe, a freehand stamped "West Germany," and an excellent piece of briar, light weight for its size, some nice grain, and balanced in hand. But the Vulcanite P-Lip stem, though it took a polishing, oxidized over in a single smoke to a gritty gray. So I sent it off to a pipe repair mentioned on Forums, and it came back promptly with a new acrylic tortoise shell stem that was just what the pipe needed. It turned a shelf worn pipe into an exotic good smoker with an interesting past and a promising future. Need a replacement stem? Do it.

Thanks to a good steer from newbroon, I have a 2nd stem from JHLowe. I kept the original and now have a new longer stem, about 1.5" longer. Love it!

Well done! Definitely keep the original, for if you ever sell it, some will prefer the original look, as well as increasing its value.
