I have a friend who frequents Germany quit often and said he would be willing to pick me up a few tins. Any ideas of what I should have him grab for me that is either hard to get or not possible to obtain here in the U.S.

Depends on where he's going. If it's Cologne then have him go to Peter Heinrich's
If he'll be in Munich he should try Pfeifen Hubere and Pfeifen Diehl
Another popular brand with forum members (especially JimInks whose reviews on this site and tobaccoreviews are legend) is Hu Tobacco. You could always order some and ship them to your friend's hotel room to take back. I've yet to try these blends but people really love them.
