You probably know that Custer cut his long hair shortly before the battle. Lakota & Cheyenne warrior oral history tell of a soldier wearing buckskins killed in the creek early in the battle but they didn't recognize him as Custer because he had cut his hair. The official version from the Army is that he wore blues that day and was killed with the others on Last Stand Hill.
