One of the donated pipes I handed out is a GBD Volcano with "made in France" on the underside of the shank - 1653 on one side and the GBD logo with New York under it on the other side.
The new owner was asking about it, how old and such. I cant find that shape number anywhere - Any Help?

By the 60s, GBD had used over a 1000 different model numbers (I think it was closer to 1500). They used different numbers for the same pipe with different stems/finishes/grades etc. I've also found that the French pipes are less well documented (that may be, of course, that I read English documentation: my French being somewhat patchy).
I've not heard of this model, but an image would help considerably.
Cheers,
Geoff

See this thread, there seems to have been a GBD/Kaywoodie connection in the past:

My shape list is far from complete and new shapes show up every week on Ebay, and that is an example.
Can you post some pictures of the pipe and nomenclature?
