Today in the mail, I was delighted to find a package from Mike Gluckler at Briar Blues. It contained a wonderful little paneled Author, from France. Mike knows me me well and thought thought I would appreciate this shape. I sure did Micheal, thanks for the thoughtfulness!
Not surprisingly, the pipe is in excellent shape, showing the same care that Mike lavishes on all of his estates.
The only thing better than a gift pipe is one with an air of mystery. Here's what I know about this Mademoiselle. The nomenclature is very faint, but under magnification, I can read:
A.P Bourges

St. Claude
And
A.B.P. St. Claude
The only detail I can discern is that Bourges is a city in France:

The city has a number of smoke shops, but nothing that suggest the pipe's origins.

Do any of the forum pipe detectives care to take a crack at it?

Wow!

That's a great looking pipe Al!
Mike is awesome!

Nice grain on that bad boy,

right in your wheelhouse!
Couldn't find anything about A.B.P.,

but as you probably know, many different French makers made the classic chubby shapes...

This one is pretty icky looking, but a perfect execution of the shape!

Regardless,

congrats on your new pipe!
And three cheers for Briar Blues!

I really like that its a paneled author, I've not seen one like that. This is so what I want next. I'm thinking of going with a 320, but in the mean time I'll just admire yours.

That is a beautiful pipe, Al.
Bravo, Mike - great gesture, to a worthy recipient.
Those old French pipes are great smokers - understated simple elegance that will put a broad smile on your face. Enjoy.
