I found similar defects in a rusticated pipe at an antique store. Hard to see on a rusticated pipe, but this one is very easy.

This seller must have vision issues.

I've fixed some abused pipes before but the grand canyon crack in the "typical pipe material" could pose a challenge. I'm sure someone could save it, but I'd pass.

This is why it is important to thoroughly read the description and look at all of the pics with scrutiny. I've bought some real stinkers that looked good at a glance but when you get them then look closely at the pics see the flaws.

Free of breaks means nothing has broken off the pipe. And the ill-fitting stem? The wood has worn down around it.....
