After reading up on why/how navy cut I've realized that I am quite intrigued about reading up on different cuts and their histories as well as each one's benefits, among other things pipe related. Can anyone recommend any free eBooks that might make for a good read?

There was a great essay by Arthur Junker titled "Towards a Theology of Pipesmoking"

You can view it from the link provided here: https://rebornpipes.com/2013/03/19/toward-a-theology-of-pipesmoking/

Perhaps not your cup of tea but I enjoyed that very much.

There is also a book by about Blending Your Own Pipe Tobacco by Robert Goff if you are interested in growing and blending your own. Though I can't find the free ebook online anymore. Maybe you'll have more luck.

Here is a classic on the subject, Milton Sherman's All About Tobacco, 1970.
