How does one make it so that private messages don't look like a horrible jumble of text?

I can't figure out how to place a paragraph.

Unfortunately, there is no way to format a Private Message. I think even if you add extra spaces between sentences, it still formats the same.

Actually, you CAN format PM's to some extent. Compose your message in a "reply" window to a forum message. You can include hyperlinks, insert images, use bold, italic, underscore and strikethrough fonts etc. Then copy that message (complete with formatting markup) and paste it into your PM.

I didn't know that woods. My only issue is when folks send a URL, and I'm on my phone, it ask runs together and it is not an active link.

There is. When you compose a message in a "reply" window, you are simply writing a text and by clicking on buttons like B or U you are giving an html command which says make it bold or underline, etc. If you want to start a new paragraph use the one below:
