So, this is a first attempt at carving a pipe from scratch.
I'll post more photos as the project progresses
Started off with an 8" section of poplar 2 by 2.

Design (billiard) sketched out with a Sharpie.
Draught hole drilled first, using a 1/4" bit, eyeballing the angle and using a hand drill (I don't have a drill press).
Bowl drilled using a 1/2" spade bit, then widened using a Dremel with a sanding bit.

Draught hole meets the bowl at the bottom.

Still some shaping to do, and finishing. No plans yet for a stem.
Let me know your thoughts.

If it were me who was making it, I might do things differently. But the carver is my 10 year old son, and he has a mind of his own.

Nice grain! The draft hole enters nicely at the bottom center of the bowl.

Give my compliments to the artisan! Looking forward to more pics.
