My girlfriend is offering to get me pipe for Valentines Day with a $30 budget. I found one on amazon for just under that, a F.E.S.S. churchwarden. I was wondering if this is a good company to buy from.
    Thank you!

It's hard to find a good pipe for $30, unless it's an estarte. Check out MR. Brog Pipes. Some of their pipes are pear wood, but they are good smokers. They have briar as well, but they cost a bit more. They have some churchwardens, but they are $40. I wouldn't a F.E.S.S.

As long as I got a pipe full of baccy and a nose full of snuff, I'm a happy camper

That's going to be a tough budget to get a quality pipe.

Would definately try to work an Ebay miracle.

Not going to get something you'll fall in love with for 30 bones.

I think I have the pipe you speak of,,its a pear wood pipe, and it smokes pretty good, but I agree with Uberam3rica, for a little more money you could prob do a lot better.

Ebay has quite a few Brogs churchwardens within that range up right now. Most are But it Now as well. I smoked my Brog Big and Mighty (I forget its actual name but that's what I call it) over the weekend and it was a great smoke. If that was my budget, that is the way I would go. Oh and congratulations on the awesome girlfriend.

I would go with Brog over F.E.S.S.I have heard alot of people say Brogs are great pipes but I have never had the pleasure of smoking one.I would save the $30 and try to add a little to it and get a pipe with a good name behind it.I plan on picking up a Brog some day.

If it's one of those Ukranian Souvineer pipes, Cheermeister, don't do it. I ordered two... the dragon II pipe and the tiger. They both broke. Shank split longways on one of them. It was disappointing, because for all intents and purposes they smoke pretty good. I'm a noobie and I was getting 45 minute smokes with 0 to 2 relights from the beginning. They look pretty cool, but I won't buy another.

*EDIT* I learned my lesson on those Amazon pipes.

Ok I looked it up, not the same thing. But steer clear of the Ukranian Souvenier and Fashion Pipes pipes. They're the same maker.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I told her to not get it for me and in the end she gave me $40 and I can put to it.
Do you have any other suggestions for a pipe in the $50 dollar range no more than say $55?
    Thanks Community!
Also yes she is very amazing!

Look for a nice estate pipe, some of the buy it nows on ebay have a make offer, just make your offer, and wait, if they say no or counter offer and its too high, move onto the next one.
Got a nice Peterson p-lip with silver for under 40 last week, and a GBD zulu the week before for under 30.
Both estates and very decent condition.
Find shapes that you might like , then start shopping for those.
Even some no name estates are really good pipes.

    Good Hunting !

One other option some people employ is to work with a B&M on an installment or layaway plan. They'll put some money down and reserve a pipe while they then put some money toward it every week until it is fully paid. A cooperative B&M will do this with no interest. It's a thought.

Thanks everyone for the import and responses! I decided to go with a brand new one from a pipe shop. It's Rustic Roma churchwarden.

I would rather get a couple cobs and some baccy for that price range. You can also convert a cob into a cobwarden if your in the whole churchwarden thing. Good luck

    Hiya guys,
Newb here but I thought I would butt in if for no other reason than to break the ice, so to speak... anthonyrosenthal, I think maybe I read your review on amazon, lol, no, not really, but...this guy bought a f.e.s.s. church and it cracked the whole length he said, but, he said he found out that the pipe came from China...not Ukraine...
Anyway, there are some new ppl selling churches on Ebay now, I just ordered one for 43.00 bucks, seller advertises it as a Mitchell Thomas Briar and Ebonite stem. I almost bought a slightly used Irish Estate Peterson bent pot, beautiful pipe, >70.00 bucks!!

    Hiya bigboi,
Yea, it figures 'bout the text, lol...sigh...what I was saying was, I really wanted a Churchwarden, I find myself relaxing more and more as I grow younger and I got a nice comfy chair and built a little table to put by it and started noticing that a long pipe would be almost perfect for my arm to stay on the armrest and still be able to draw on it,... wow, talk about getting lazy huh? I realize that usually the more money you spend the better the product, just very hard at this time for me to do that, I am a beginner so..don't know anything about pipes to be honest, maybe a little from some research, and I haven't got it down, so to speak, to where I look at the pipe like I did those godawful cigarettes, (I just had to quit those finally). In a week or so I will get one a little more prestigious, and see about the difference. And sure, be happy to post a pic of my new pipe, lol, should get it around next Tuesday. Thanks for talkin' to me, appreciate the help

    Cheermeister,

I now this may be a day late and a few dollars short, but I agree with smeigs, you should go this route:

    http://corncobpipe.com/index.php/10-pipe-grab-bag-of-smokable-seconds.html

For $30 you can get a grab bag of 10 cobs and you would have money left over for tobacco. Not sure where you are with your collection but this is a nice way to get it kick started.

Welcome to the forums and Happy Smoking

    Dan
