Quoted from the FDAs website:
"In 2016, FDA finalized a rule extending our regulatory authority to cover all tobacco products, including pipe tobacco. FDA now regulates the manufacture, import, packaging, labeling, advertising, promotion, sale, and distribution of pipe tobacco. This includes components and parts such as pipes, but excludes accessories such as lighters."
“Components” or “parts” include, among other things, software or an assembly of materials intended or reasonably expected to alter or affect the tobacco product’s performance, composition, constituents, or characteristics; or to be used with or for the human consumption of a tobacco product. Accessories of newly-regulated tobacco products are not regulated. For a full definition of components, parts, and accessories, please read Deeming Tobacco Products To Be Subject to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act."

You sure do like stirring up the panic and worry in these folks.
From your last post on this... I wrote... That would be like trying to regulate whistles or pocketknives, ha ha. They do such a great job of regulating and protecting us from drug paraphernalia that we would never see stores full of water pipes or small drug pipes at all ever. Nope, no such thing, right? Ha ha! :puffy:
As long as I have a pocketknife, I'll have a pipe.

Yeah there's no way that'll ever happen. Anything can be a pipe and so long as tobacco is legal what can they do about what amounts to tools?

Sorry, Cosmic. Just venting, and trying to draw some attention to the topic. I'm just not ready to give this hobby up quite yet.

Maybe pipes will be sold un-drilled and marketed as table art. Hell, some of our forum members purchase their pipes for this purpose anyway!

I don't know why you assume that everything is just going to end. I work with regulated metals, and almost everything we consume is regulated. The lady with the shop across the street that makes soaps, lotions, and cosmetics tells me that we are all a bunch of wimpy whiny women. She makes cosmetics and deals with the FDA all the time. The guys down the road has his chicken houses regulated. These aren't multi-million dollar companies.
I know, I know, on principal... and the anti's... public perceptions... and people want one more reason to hate whichever aspect of the government that they already hate...
Sure, go ahead... If it makes you feel better.

Yeh, if it makes you all feel better. I still think it makes the pipe community look like a bunch of hand-wringing bitches.
Just make sure you send in your formal complaints through the IPCPR and if in Alabama contact Shelby and Sessions. Then, do your worrying, hand-wringing, and foot-stomping after you've taken care of the real stuff.

Wise up, regulation has nothing to do with protecting the people and everything to do with increasing government control over the private sector and raising revenue from taxes and fines. Both of which are prime tactics of the relentless socialist agenda of the past 8 years.

I didn't say it did, shutter. Just that it's a lot less oppressive than you guys make it sound. I mean if you work in a field where you just show up and collect a paycheck, most likely you have no idea how things like this work. It's just more bullshit time consumption than anything, but overall, it's not that bad. And, as Russ said, it's way too early to be shielding yourself from the sky falling anyways.
And, posting a whine here is not nearly as effective as just doing what will get some recognition. Bitching about it to your girlfriends won't get anything done. And, nothing positive as ever come from worry. Send your dissatisfaction to the people that matter, and then lets move forward.
