On a Aro kick right now so VA, cavendish, burley for the time being. Getting the urge to gravitate back to Mr. Latakia though.

I like all the different types, but if I had to choose just one, it would be Va/Per.

I like everything, but mostly end up smoking; Latakia, Va/Per, Navy Flake, English, Cavendish.

American style blends, meaning various combinations of

      Virginia
      Burley
      Perique
      Orientals

I used to be into British blends, but nowdays my palate and sinuses object to the Latakia. I dunno why.

Ghost45, may I suggest Peter Stokkebye Whiskey (aged whiskey aroma) or Peter Stokkebye Highland Whiskey. Either have a good whiskey taste to them and are good quality tobacco as well. Not overley cased and goopy. I ordered some C&D Afterhours a VA flake with spiced rum. I highly recommend this as well, but obviously spiced rum flavored and not whiskey.

I like just about all tobaccos - as long as they are made well and don't have a bite. It often depends on my mood. Earlier in the day - I will have a more aromatic or virginia type blend. As my nightcap - I will go to a heavier English blend.

I do enjoy virginia/perique blends too. Straight virginia blends are also tasty - Esoterica Tobacciana - has a straight virginia blend called Cardiff - that I have enjoyed in the past. Also I enjoy blends that have cognac and rum in them.

One thing is certain - my Humidor - I have a little Gothic Chest with drawers that I fill up with different tobaccos - is I can't smoke the same thing all the time.

Like I said - it all depends on my mood.

I don't have the ability to do that right now - hence the abscence of my picture on this site. But - I will as soon as I figure everything out.

ps. I also like hybrid/cross over blends of tobaccos - English+Aromatics. Very tasty indeed.

One tobacco type was left off. American/English blends: such as Revelation, Splilman Mixture, Barking Dog, and Count Pulaski. You guys may know of others.

    Right. Americana by Cornell & Diehl is one of the few I will smoke;
and I've got nearly a ½ pound aging for a year now.
But I wouldn't call it a favorite, just a change of pace smoke.

I must try that one. Thanks. I also want to try Spilman Mixture. I enjoy Count Pulaski. The Count has the added benefit of having a room note that my wife and sons like. Well.. my wife tolerates.

lol I agree with Phil..whatever is good and doesn't break the bank. I seem to like what I call 'regular' tobaccos over aromatics, but don't get me wrong, I dig the aromatics Though I'm not sure what a 'regular' pipe tobacco would be per se.. I figure Escudo Navy Deluxe, Boswell's Premium Burley, Flying Dutchman, and the like are regular type tobaccos...this is all new to me though.. I always thought Cavendish was a flavor or type of tobacco until I asked a gent at pipesandcigars.com who answered a bunch of questions for me..and was very nice too.

It seems to be a seasonal thing for me. Warmer temps call for a Virginia tobacco and as things cool off an English blend is needed. Codger burleys are a must year round.

My top three in each would probably be

Full Virginia Flake, Best Brown Flake, and Old Gowrie.

Squadron Leader, McClelland 5125, and Penzance.

Prince Albert, Edgeworth RR'd, and Carter Hall.

I don't know if it's still being fairly new to the pipe I'm still drawn towards aromatics. Town Topic and Dan Blue Note are a couple of my fav's although I don't even know what type of tobacco they are.

I don't smoke a lot of aromatics. When I do it is usually captain black white. I tend to lean more toward english blends such as Squadron leader, FMOTT. I also really enjoy Burley based blends like PA, Carter hall, and SWR.

I I was told One and One only...MBs Navy Flake would be just fine with me. I'm glad no one is forcing me into this but I could be happy with just the Navy Flake

I smoked a tin of it when I first started seriously smoking pipes. I don't recall liking it too much and have never smoked it since.

I need to revisit it though because my tastes have changed a lot since the beginning and I have a greater appreciation and know a lot more about smoking pipes now than I did back then.

Be sure to posts your thoughts on it!

I smoke more VA/PERs than anything else, followed by Virginias, though I'll smoke about anything that I think is worth trying.

In the beginning, I didn't care for latakia much at all. Two of the first I tried were Nightcap and Pelican and I found both way too potent. The only ones I really liked were the watered-down Early Morning Pipe and Solent Mixture. What finally made my tastebuds appreciate latakia was soldiering through a tin of James Fox's Dorisco Mixture, by the time I finished it, I was sold. Now I'm looking forward to delving some more and plan for some of my next few purchases to be latakias/English blends.

Hi everyone. I'm new here and just wanted to thank those responsible for the site. What a great thing to be able to learn more about one of my favorite pastimes. Been smoking a pipe off and on for nearly 20 years.

Anywho, back to the topic at hand. My current favorite is a nice Virginia flake.

Thanks for the welcome, dunendain. I'm in love right now with Rattray's Hal O' The Wynd. I've been wanting to try something from Samuel Gawith recently too. Anyway, thanks for letting me hang out. It beats the heck out of working!

Dudley, that smokey flavor can become quite addicting. My wife has forbidden Latakia in the house, so I am waiting for summer.

By summer in California you mean when it's 82 degrees vs 78?

I won't see any communication directed to me here. I'm no longer active at this forum.

Let's see what is my fav. Almost any with Latakia or Perique. I really like AB Rimboche from D&R, well damn near all the D&R blends. I have some PS Balkan Supreme and some Proper English. I got a Latakia sampler from P&C and I like most of them. Still trying to figure the folding trick with some roll cake! Last ordered is all D&R: Ramback, Ryback, SJ Rimboche; I'm going to try to age some of the SJ if I can keep out of the stuff long enough! I broke down and ordered bulk Latakia and Perique for fun and blending.
