What shapes are yall a sucker to buy every time you see one presented well?

For me its a Prince/Apple shape, which I never see too many of anymore.

This is my Dunhill prince that I love. Great little flake pipe too.

I like shapes. Shapes are good when it comes to pipes.
I like Volcanos, Pokers, Apples, Bulldogs, Calabashes, and free forms.
I really don't have a favorite shape, I buy a pipe if I think it is a good pipe and speaks to me. You know things like: "Lawrence... Lawrence... C'mon you know you want to buy me.... She'll only be mad for a week or two...."

I really like the bent dublins and I really want to get a bulldog and another style--the "hanging ardor" if anyone knows that one. I have seen it on Youtube and it has a huge bowl and literally hangs from the mouth.

I am a huge fan of the Danish Freehands, but for traditional I would have to go with a beefy bulldog

I love bulldogs and any variation of the bulldog shape... I am also growing fond of the author shape or at least I think that is the shapes name!

I'll second Bjeorn's choice, the Pete 80s bent bulldog. Without a doubt the most comfortable pipe I've ever held

For me it's has to be the bent billiard as epitomised by this Pre-Republic Peterson Supreme 69.

Usually I prefer the 1/4 bent Bulldog shape, but I have to say that after handling this Caminetto, I think this is my new prefered shape. I don't know what it's called though.
It appears to be a 1/4 bent billiard, but it's a setter. The shank is square and the bottom is slightly upswept. The stem is avarage 1/4 bent, maybe a little more.
All in all, it fits the hand extremely well. It also hangs from the mouth without a lot of forward weight.
The circumference of the bowl just fits between the fingers so well, that I find myself just setting and holding it sometimes.
It is the "Duemila" that came out to celebrate the year 2000. What a wonderfully executed design. Needless to say since it is a Caminetto, it smokes great also.

I can't say exactly what shape is my favorite. So far every pipe I own is an example of a different shape: apple, horn, billiard, rhodesian, volcano. Of those, my fave is the volcano. It just strikes me as a nice combinations of angles and curves. If I was going to add another couple to my collection, though, I'd be on the lookout for an author and maybe a brandy.

max's Caminetto looks VERY nice! I'd probably like it.

My faves tend to be straight or quarter-bent pipes that easily take a pipecleaner all the way to the bowl. Dublins, authors, saddle-bit billiards, lovats, generally more-or-less traditional shapes.

I also like the prince/apple shape. Here's the Dunhill sitting on his big brother, the Sav 315 EX

And if this Stanwell poker ever makes it off the UPS truck, it's another fav.

Interesting thread with surprising results... Based on my years of operating a pipe shop I'm not surprised that so many of you like bulldogs, freehands etc. But what did surprise me is the interest in the Prince shape. I always found them to be a hard sell shape. Maybe tastes are changing. Who knows?

I don't think I have a "favorite" shape, but based on my own pipes I notice I have quite a few calabash shaped briars, bent apples, and saddle bit billards. What this all means, I don't have a clue.

It has been observer that when the Republicans are in power men like standard English shapes and when the Democrats are in power men like freehands.... go figure!

I like bent shapes. OK, not technically a shape but, I only have 3 straights in my collection. Unless you count my 401 Savinelli CW, which I don't since it has a slight bend to it.

My goal is to collect all the classic shapes or slight variations/interpratations there of. Wild freehands just make me feel like I'm being a goofball when I smoke em. But, I admire the work and all that goes into them, and whatever floats your pipe boat the better. I love the Brandy and Diplomat, currently looking for the right chimney. I got one spotted, now just to save and hope it's still there come payday!

" currently looking for the right chimney"

Your remark remined me of something. A while back I offered a Castello on Ebay. A Searock chimney with a military bit. Nice pipe. I didn't put a minumun on it and I forgot to monitor the bids. It sold for $40.! I screwed up bad because it should have gone for 2 or 3 times that. Moral of the story is watch your Ebay items....

I'll throw my lot in with the classic Billiard.
As I'm guessing many of you can concur, this was my first pipe, and it left the indelible impression on me that "THIS is what a pipe should feel like". I've recently acquired (yes, PAD.../sigh/) a few slight variations on this by way of the Medico Jet Stream pipe, which for some reason *really* tickles my fancy. To me it speaks of the mid-century modern aesthetic in woodworking; of slick and shiny cars and the Jetsons and the great FUTURE being right around the corner...hehe In fact they tickle me so much I fear it's approaching addiction status... At any rate, they feel great in the hand, and work better than a laser for pointing at diagrams or poking holes in a fellow philosopher's arguments. Much tastier as well.

I just thought to clarify: I meant that MY favorite shape is the billiard because it was my first pipe; and I was GUESSING that whatever shape other people smoked as their first often became their preferred pipe shape. Am I correct in this prognostication?

I still don't have a billiard. I find that ironic, since in my head the picture that forms when someone mentions smoking a pipe, it's a billiard, closely followed by churchwardens from the Lord of the Rings.

I'm waiting for the right one. In the meantime, my bulldogs, volcano and apple are my regular rotation.

I'm partial to just about anything "bent". The only time I really smoke my straight pipes is when I am just sitting around. Bent pipes are just easier to let "dangle" while I am piddling around.

Interesting thoughts here. When I originally got into pipes, not that long ago, the shapes I liked were straight apple and billiard shapes. To me, they were just the classic shape that I saw in photos from the 50’s and 60’s of dads smoking their pipes. Bent shapes didn’t do it for me. However, at some point, I saw a ¼ bent bulldog that I really liked along with another full bend pipe and I ordered them. I just love the look of that bulldog and the full bend pipe fit so perfectly against the lip and rested nicely on my chin. Suddenly, I found myself drawn a little more to bent stems. If it’s a pipe I’m going to clench, maybe reading a book or just kicking back, I’m often reaching for that bulldog or another bent pipe. I still like the straights, they still scream classic pipe too me, and I really am starting to like the look of some of the poker designs, but I tend to smoke them less and only when I know my hands will be free to hold the pipe.
