Congratulations on your new pipe. I hope you enjoy it for many years.
I enjoyed your posting about your Steve Morrisette pipe in a separate thread. I read about him after that and also bought one of his pipes. I enjoy learning about different carvers from other forum members.

Here's some excellent reading if you've never seen it before.

Brad, what are we looking at, a Regent, or a Viscount Lascelles? Shape numbers 16 or 56 respectively.

]It's a shape 15 and the two dot is spelled out and other side of shank says Made In England, underneath the spelled out Two Dot it says London Made. I"m just going by what Pipestud said that Family Era the dots were spelled out not number stamped. This one is a Four Dot Ruff Root not spelled out and underneath stem France is spelled out

15, the Rugby. If I were to hazard a guess, from the 1970's, and yes definitely a family era pipe. Sasieni pipes are such great smokers!

Dang it, Bradley. I don't want to steal your thread, but with everybody weighing in on the Sasieni burners I've got to ask a couple of questions.
How do I date my my Sasieni Fantail and a really wonderful Old England, with a very faded Sasieni shield, that I use for a last, quick smoke before bedtime?

Brad, I'm going to revise and extend my remarks, the pipe could be from the 1980's, after the first sale of the company. The determinative thing is, I think the shape 15, the Rugby, and the question is when was it introduced? The "Mid 1980's" catalog at Chris Keene's pipepages shows the Rugby shape and both Two Dot and Four Dot spelled out. I'm not sure if the Made in England in a line was used in the family era, it may have been in the later years. I tend to think of the football shape Made in England for the family pipes. From what I was just reading,
"When the company was sold in 1979, one of the first things the new owners did was to eliminate the town names from the shanks. The dots were enlarged yet further, and the Sasieni name, though still done in script, was larger, as was the rest of the shank nomenclature, which in all other ways was similar to the Pre-Transition nomenclature. While these pipes are not as collectible as the family made pipes, they were made with care and are high quality.
The nomenclature changed again in 1986, with the sale of the company to the Post-Transition firm. The three line nomenclature was changed to two lines, with the first reading “Sasieni 4 Dot” and the second identifying the finish, e.g. Natural, Walnut, or Ruff Root. Note how 4 Dot is spelled, using an Arabic numeral 4, as opposed to spelling out the word “four”. This is the easiest way to spot a Post-Transition Sasieni..."
Reading this, your pipe would seem to be from the period 1979-1986.

I've been curious about the Fantails myself, I almost bought one last year at Richmond. I don't find much on dating this line, in fact almost nothing.

Excellent information, and that's a big part of what this forum is about – to educate members about different pipes, styles, techniques, manufacturing and so forth. Of course, the bottom line is Brad got himself one fine pipe there – enjoy it man.
