I tried to log in awhile ago, and the site would not load. Using another computer without being logged in, I could see the forum fine. I did a bit of digging and found the "Miserable User" add-on for vBulletin which does this. Looks like I've been "shadow banned."

I am guessing this is a mistake, since as far as I know, I broke no rules and never received any negative feedback from any admins. "Miserable User" is normally used for people who keep signing up for new accounts after the old ones are banned, and it's very rare to use it on someone for even a first offense.

Anyway, I'd like to contact the forum admins but the "contact@pipesmokersforum.com" email elicited no response. Anyone know someone over there who can answer this?

Thanks, bonehed. I sent him this:

I recently found myself shadow-banned from PipeSmokersForum.com using the "Miserable User" method which is available as an option to vBulletin. I found this curious, as this method is generally used for repeat offenders who have registered multiple accounts, and also because I am unaware of (1) any rules I broke or standards I violated and (2) received no feedback from admins on this matter.

I replied to the official email address of the forum to no avail. I consider it bad form to register another account to ask about this, so am asking you here if you can explain why this happened and what I can do to rectify it.

We'll see if it gets any response or gets completely ignored like the earlier messages.

I am having trouble reaching this site. Through my normal Firefox browser I get the message "403 forbidden". So now I am typing this through my TOR browser which is kind of annoying. I will mail to admin@pipesmagazine.com, thanks for the address.

    deathmetal,

Here is the info you requested. It seems to complicated a question for the other posters to answer.

The guy asked a simple question. Why is it that he has to get smart ass answers???

Why can't someone just simply answer him???

There seems to be some talking at cross purposes here. The OP question is for PSF, not PipeMag or SF...PSF mods,

Thank you, Rich. I managed to confuse "Smokers Forum" and "Pipe Smokers Forum" in my article title, and it's the latter I seek, but now you have me browsing SmokersForum. I appreciate the simple and direct answer.

jpberg is the guy you need to contact. He is a mod at PSF and a member in good standing here. I suggest you send a pm to jpberg.

Excellent idea. I've sent him a PM with the text above that I sent to DGErwin and the official forum email contact.

It is interesting watching someone self-destruct right in front of one's eyes. Watching it happen on the written page is almost as interesting.

Yeah that guy went cray cray. Of course Kevin is in this for the money. He's an entrepreneur for crying out loud. This is a voluntary online community, it's not like we're stuck in North Korea. Kind of a self-righteous guy, despite his apparent generosity.

Whoever Patham57 was, he obviously had issues with this site, and with being banned or blocked from it.

Anyone know a Pat(rick), involved with Ham (radio), born around '57, who may have been blocked from this site in the past, and felt like stirring up trouble with a new identity?

cosmic: I don't know. Lot of built up resentment and his head just exploded. I received a brief mention in his jottings. I'm unsure if it was written as a compliment. Apparently I was wearing Kevin as a hat or something.

Warren, I bet you'd look dashing in a Kevin hat, especially if he's got those pipe cufflinks on, ha ha.

Yeh, narcissism + sociopath + internet = weirdness all around, if not outright dangerous individuals altogether. We have a strange new breed of insanity in this generation.

I had no idea that this other forum existed, pipesmokersforum. So, is this guys hitting both places, causing login problems? We just need a good old fashioned shunning.

I don't think the issues with logins at pipesmokersforum.com have anything to do with certain users. I think it's a technical issue as it's has happened to a couple folks.

Yep. For better or worse, the hat in your avatar will forever be named Kevin in forum lore.

Lore usage will go something like this: "Hey Warren, how's Kevin holding up? You take him out fishing yet?", or "Maybe if you got your head out of Kevin, you'd see how bad Aro's are and start smoking some straight Virginia flake!".

    Good ol' Morbid Angel

It's the pleasant surprise of the day that you are familiar with it.

It's only fair to mention the great Dutch acts as well: Asphyx, Pestilence, Ceremony, Sinister, Sammath and Kaeck. They are immortals!

As Bonehed stated - the pipe smokers forum is having issues. I too can not longer log in. Bonehed has actually been kind enough to offer help, but so far his attempts at getting a reply from the folks of PSF has not come through. I was only a member for 3 weeks and as you stated, Deathmetal, the problem began mid Aug (8/13 for me)- crap I wasn't on long enough to piss off anyone!
