Good morning all! Just after 7 and a late morning for me. Very busy for brewers this time of year. But I got everything done and now just sitting and watching the levels go down in the vessels so I get to sleep in until 6 for a few mornings. Going to smoke a bowl of EMP and think about life in general.
good morning all, late getting here. but been up for a while. When i woke up I found i had money in the bank so i had to spend it. finely ordered my H&H meat candy, some H&H Anniversary Kake, and some H&H daybreak. Now ive got to get working on a few mangers before Christmas.
Morton who do you brew for?
@ vaboatbuilder I'm the head brewer for Brewsters Brewing company in Saskatchewan Canada, not to be confused with the Brewsters in Alberta, Canada. Same family, different brothers, different company. Love my job, love my owners - its good to be me right now.
Im a home brewer, and i enjoy visiting different breweries, wineries, and distillers. i have never seen two alike. The process is amazing.
Work at 5AM today. C'mon 4 day weekend! Which will probably be more stressful... Woohoo!
Heading into work shortly. Going to make a Russian Imperial Stout so the day should be interesting. The way I have it calculated, there should be just enough room in the mash tun for that much grain (12.5 % Alcohol/volume)on a maximum 6 % A/V system. If not, I will have one heck of a mess to clean up. We'll see. This is what makes life interesting first thing in the morning. Wish me luck!
Good morning early birds. Now smoking some Frog Morton in a blasted full bent, with coffee.
Morning Porsh. Morton, what yeast do you use that can tolerate 12.5%? A dash of champagne?
Sitting up all night tonight, waiting to see what inane stories pop up on the TV, and smoking some Moontrance.
You liking that Moontrance? I picked up a tin a couple months back and tried it a couple times but so many other choices that I just jarred it up. Any exciting news to report?
Good morning all. Hoping its not the last day of everything. Otherwise I just wasted a bunch of cash on Christmas presents and tobacco....
morton I have never had a boil over but I can imagine what a mess it would be.
metarzan most belgian strain yeast can handle 15% - 20%.
i'm supposed to be working on mangers for christmas but having trouble finding the wood local, why do I always wait till the last min. lol
Good morning, crispy in the Deep South, 38, nippy, fleece pants on, cup of Starbucks and smokeing a charge of SQLeader. The old cajun
I'm having a problem figuring out just where on the planet the end of the world will begin.
Here in Chicago, at 7:00 AM nothing has happened yet, and it's already 1:00 PM in London.
Oh well, I suppose it'll start around noon on the west coast -- an appropriate location for shit to hit the fan.
Midnight Mayan time, which I believe is central time, same as Chicago. You have 17 mas horas.
One of our Brothers made the astute observation That the Mayans didn"t see the Spanish comeing. The old Cajun, PS maybe they ran out of stone and wrote on the back of the Tablet and they didn"t look in back
@ metarzan I use various yeasts but am not allowed to divulge names due to confidentiality issues. But I'd bet that a good liquid wyeast blend double pitched and fermented @ 60 F would probably handle the alcohol content. Some are better than others. White labs (if they are still in existence) also makes pretty good liquid cultures.
@ vaboatbuilder I'm not talking boil over (but that would be a mess also). The mash vessel is only rated for up to 8 % max volume of grain b/c its a 5% alc/vol system. I fit all the grain in (650 lbs) but can't see my vorlauf arm right now, its buried in the mash. Holy cow!
yes white labs is what i use. When I'm brewing on a regular i save my yeast from one batch to the next. I'd like to find me a conical fermenter i could afford.it would make it much easier.
Merry Christmas. Hailing and lightning like crazy right now. Hope the power stays on. Hope Santa came early as the skies and landings might be a little rough at the moment!
Merry Christmas to all. May God bless us, everyone. Now smoking Frog Morton in a blasted bulldog Christmas Pipe.
good morning to all and marry christmas, there are several areas getting sever weather rite now. I pray yall make though the storm. Im packing a bowl of youl pudding for the morning.
Merry Christmas to all. Its -41 F with the windchill outside right now and even the dogs don't want to go out. Haven't really got my day going yet but think that I'll have a bit of coffee and relax for a bit before I contemplate doing anything.
Too cold to smoke and juggle a pipe through the black ice on the way in to work this morning. But... The pirate is full of Penzance and looking forward to the drive home.
Very slow start this morning, can't seem to get into the swing of things.
good morning to all, wet nasty day here. all the family is expected to arrive today, going to be a full house. i think im going to start the day with some H&H daybreak it has quickly become my fav.
Morning all. Tried a second bowl of Black House and I gotta say it did not impress me as much as the hype made me think that it would. Definitely enjoy Penzance a lot more. Enjoy Blue Mountain heaps more than both. Will go through the whole tin of BH before I make up my mind.
Morning all in at work at 1am enjoying a bowl of Petersons irish flake and trying to figure out what my next tobacco purchase will be, i might of left ordering a bit late and i just hope whatever i order will arrive before i run out ..... that would be a very sad day
Smokeing some Triple Crown, Milan tobbaco shop blend in a big Edwards Lovat, pondering on what I will order from them, son and daughter-in-law gave me a 75$ gift certificate. The old cajun
@metarzn: Moontrance is okay. Not superb, but okay. I have to smoke it cracker dry so it doesn't goop. I'm a fast smoker. Nothing crazy as far as 2012 was on that night. Just the usual craziness.
good morning all not sure what im going to try this morning ive gotten a ton of samplers here of late. need to make up my mind its about time to leave for work.
I hear you about having too many samples. It is hard to stick with one blend long enough to find a favorite. But it is a job that must be done. Good luck choosing!
good morning. its like this one is my fav. until i try the next tobacco. I smoked only captian black for so long now my eyes are open.
Cold day in Florida, 6:20 it's 44 and I really have to think about moving further south during these harsh conditions.
Haha yah 40's is a bit too cold for me too! Good luck with your move to Cuba. See ya on the cigar forum.
feel for you sal. i'm in Virginia and its in the mid 50's. pipe is loaded with daybreak, really starting to like the stuff.
CarterWoods in a #3 Dunhill Lovat. The old cajun
@ sal57
@ vaboatbuilder
I feel for you guys. Its -8 Celcius here in the great white north, that translates to 17 Fahrenheit and its a really nice day. It has been a lot colder (-20 F) for many days in a row. Think I might get out and barbeque.
Some nice EMP in a BBB own make with a cup of Irish breakfast tea!
Haha yah 40's is a bit too cold for me too! Good luck with your move to Cuba. See ya on the cigar forum.
lol, but you never know
Good morning all. Its 5:30 here .................and back to bed....nite ..............

Drinking a cup of coffee, smokeing a bowl of 10 to Midnight, have to take it easy back acting up. The old cajun
Coffee and Old Dark Fired.
Off today so up a little later. So far coffee and deciding what to smoke. When it warms up a bit I am heading for the garage to play with my new Beall buffer.
Up early today, my back is also mad at me (it told me not to help somebody load their U-Haul yesterday, but I didn't listen), so having coffee and a smoke too. Then some more coffee.
spending time with the family havent been able to be to get to the computer. no smoke this morning
Morning, Happy New Year and i'm off to work. 5:25 am

Yeah work woohoo! At least it is only for three days this week. Hope most of you have the whole week off. No smoke for breakfast today. Plenty of time to decide on afternoon smoke.
Smoking some old Pelican in a cob. 4:15am here. I'm not up early, I'm up late. As usuall due to insomnia.
Hear that guitarguy! I suffer from them frustrating nights and early morning, nothing on the box "just let me sleep"insomniac horrors! Ok it ain't that bad cos I got my pipe
Currently smoking some Hal O' The Wynd. AGAIN! I've really found my stride with this blend and can't leave it alone!
good morning, I've been waking much later here of late. I believe im going to start my day with some H&H daybreak.
Do any of you insomniacs have access to a hot tub? Maybe a hot bath would do the trick... 30 minutes in the hot tub and I can barely stay awake for 30 minutes after. I have heard of doctors prescribing them which can get you a discount though I doubt insurance would cover a tub. I sleep like a zombie after a good tub/smoke session.
The water here is something I wouldn't want to soak in for more than a few minutes. So much iron, this water will rust plastic! I swear. I shower in it, but only because I have to.
You must be one of those Lubbock fellows with orange teeth?
Well maybe a FIR sauna is in your future...

Good Morning! I think it's a Frog Morton morning.
Frog Morton sounds great. A member was kind enough to send me a couple different samples which should be here today!
good morning, this morning is a push to finish off the H&H egg nogg. I think im going to start on a custom pipe rack today. just cant seem to find one to fit my needs.
I have 3 pipe racks and none of them work for me. I have a space that could use a custom rack but I haven't done much beyond sketching. Keep us posted on how it goes.
Good morning everyone.
!Morning chaps. Smoking my first bowl of Ashton artisans in a cob from this mornings haul in the post!
morning all, crisp and cool here just rite for some coffee and smoke.
Heading out to help a friend move. Fun day. Oh well evening smoke will be even more anticipated.
come on down ill need help next month, best part ill be able to brew again
Good Morning! 5:38 here on my way to work, Truck day!
@morton- and I thought I had a cool job, hmm yours be better
Good morning starting of with cafe verona and a bowl of pom holiday.
@ thesmokingdragon All jobs have their days, I quite like mine 99% of the time but every once and awhile, I grit my teeth and go in to work.
Started the day with coffee, 12 grain toast and some fried eggs easy over. Doctor wants me to not use butter, eggs etc so I just mention the hearty bread when we talk. He says he's surprised that I haven't lost weight with all this healthy eating. Ah well, if you can't stretch the truth with your doctor, who can you stretch it with? Going down to the smoking lounge and fire a bowl of the baronsamedi's new blend I just got. And some more coffee. That's healthy eating at its best!
