OK...I read the reviews and got the distinct impression that ya either love it or hate it. While trying out some new mixtures, I thought that I would give this one a test smoke. Any thoughts on this blend?

Love it. It is the blend that said you will love English blends I never looked back.

Ditto. Enjoyed it from first puff.

I don't like it a bit. Made it through a small tin and then tried Odyssey. YuM

Not a big fan. But admittedly it was bulk and very dry. I was told the tin was better, but haven't tried since I've got a looooonnnnggg list before it now

Used to like it, and then grew away from it. I liked London Mixture better than 965, IIRC, but I haven't smoked a Dunhill English blend in years. I prefer Old Dublin or Squadron Leader, myself, for an all day English.

The bulk is fine, the tin is fine... Dunhill My Mixture is my favorite tobacco of all time. London Mixture is good, but 965 is the best blend they make. I used to buy it bulk, but it was hard to locate for a while, so I am down to the last jar of bulk. This is the blend I measure all other English tobaccos from, and they usually are found lacking.

Member "lestrout" brought some 4 yr old MM965 to the Boswell Meet & Greet on Saturday. Based one what I told him I like, he recommended I try some. It was love at first smoke. Les said to let it sit for a while, he likes it "crispy". I bought the lone tin Boswells had and picked up three more today. It is very balanced, with just the right amount of latakia for my tastes. I like my English on the mild side and this really hit my sweet spot.

There is a reason I have 30+ tins of MM 965 in my cellar. (Other than my wife's view that I have lost my mind) When I crave an English like MM 965.....nothing else will do.

See? Ya either love it or hate it! I'd raelly would like to try Squadron Leader and Butera's Pelican, but they are always out of stock along with another one that I like, Penzance. So, I've been making some of the rounds...Next, me thinks, will be Germain's King Charles and one other. Just want to smoke down what I have right now. For the time, my 'go-to' blends that I have in stock are 7 Seas Royal, FMOTT, and my 50/50 blend of GLP's Kensington & Blackpoint. I'm working on a tin of McConnell's Scottish Blend and I want to do a comparison with the 965. Stay tuned!

I tried 965 for the first time last week - I love it. It's got a delightful Latakia flavor, and it's smoother and creamier than a lot of English blends.

Dunhill 965 was my first foray into Balkans, and remained a staple in my rotation for years. I bought and jarred a bunch of it when it was supposed to be pulled form the American market, which made my local B&M happy, anyway. Since I joined this forum, my tastes have broadened, and I much prefer the likes of Penzance and Blue Mountain, but 965 is my basis for comparison. Oh, and if you leave a bag of 965 in your car for 3 weeks during the summer, it developers a richer, smokier fragrance and delightfully full body and rich taste, but noone will want to be in the same car with you while you smoke it.

Milan Tobacco produces a "965" blend. Is this an attempt at producing something similiar? I know they produce blends called Our London Dock and Our Captain Black. I have been interested in placing an order with them, as I like their pricing and the reviews I've read. Any opinions??

I love Milan's they are great people and are located close to where I live. The "my 965" blend they produce is close. The King's Ransom is probably the best English they blend, Chartwell is another good blend from them. Great service, and a real B&M that still caters to pipe smokers.

Really, really wanted to love it. Really, really didn't enjoy it at all. Think it's an issue with my mouth-chemistry however, as I get a harsh chemical flavour that only grows stronger as the bowl progresses, masking any tobacco flavours. It's like sipping at welding fumes; not exactly a pleasant experience.
Still, I dip into the jar every couple of months, hoping that today is the day...

It wasn't fridged out last night 'cuz we're having a non-winter here in Connecticut so I went out after dinner and tried a bowl in my Country Gent cob. I found it to be subtle and on the light side. I smoked it slowly and that seems to be the way that it kept its character. As it went down to mid-bowl, I found that it began to take on a slightly floral note. I enjoyed this first bowl and will smoke it more over the weekend to see if it stays as good as this first try.

I ordered some 965 last night. I didn't read these posts, so I hope it's a good smoke and not another addition to my DOA collection.

It's always a good idea to read the reviews on tobaccos before purchase. Whether or not you agree with them. It'll let you know what to expect more or less.

This site has a review site affiliated with it.

If you cannot find the blend you're looking for there then try tobaccoreviews.com That site has no ties to this one. We try to keep it in the family whenever possible.

I received my Dunhill My Mixture 965 yesterday. I've had 2 bowls today. I was amazed at how nice smoking it is. No tongue bite at all. I'll order more for sure. I wish the tin wasn't so small. 50g is only 1.76 ounces. I can do this in a weekend. I'll have to find a bulk maker out there. Anyone know if there is a bulk for this blend ? I'd appreciate it.
