I think it was a bit of both. Anyone who uses EBay and collects Custom-bilt can tell you that the prices are far more expensive then they were a few years ago. This beautiful piece of briar had the look and shape and was listed only as an imported briar, the photos were fuzzy and in the description the seller said it was something bill but could not make out the first word so I took a chance and won it for $17. When she arrived I was pleasantly surprised to see she was in fact a Custom-bilt ,used and abused but not too far gone to smoke again. After a little spit and polish she shined once again.

Agreed. Good eye, that is the secret to getting them at a decent price now. I still pick them up every other week or so like that. Light stampings are common on older custombilts.
