I don't have a photo of the pipe but the nomenclature is:
Dunhill Shell Made In England0 (underlined)

U.S. Patent 1341418/20
I can't good a good feel from the Dunhill dating sites.
I'm picking it up from an estate this week. In great condition.
Thanks
Ray

Ray, I think I have bought some pipes from you on ebay! So, DUNHILL SHELL, not DUNHILL'S "SHELL"? If the former, I would say 1941-43/45. If the latter, 1930. For a detailed explanation of my first answer see John Loring's,
A Hypothetical WWII Pipe
http://loringpage.com/pipearticles/Hypothetical%20WWII%20Pipe.htm
For comparison and the 1930 date from R.D. Field see,

Thanks to both of you. I thought that it was 1940 but wasn't 100% sure. It's stamped DUNHILL...no possessive.

Here's the only photo I have. The estate emailed it to me tonight. No idea what the shape # is.
