Cornell & Diehl Haunted Bookshop - Pipe Tobacco Reviews
I've been wanting to try Haunted Bookshop. Just haven't gotten around to it quite yet.
Thanks for the review.I think C&D are the most creative blenders in the world today. Their catalog is witness to that.
To me, this is up there with McClelland's Grey Havens. It's a good solid smoke, but nothing to write home about.
Another great review Bob.
I'm not a big Burley fan either, but the hint of Perique might be the nudge I needed to give it a try.
I have been meaning to try haunted bookshop, having trouble finding it in Canada tho, after reading that review I will bite the bullet and buy a tin from the states!
Looks like I need to give this a try after reading that excellent review.
Great review. I've just had a bowl of this from an order I placed with C&D, and I agree, its a great smoke!
Excellent review...This blend is one of my favs
Fullbent, it seems we share some similar taste with tobacco. I'm still learning about the different types myself, any suggestions?
aint it funny i picked up a oz of this over the weekend and in my quest to discover what i like i have come to think i may be a burly man and i am enjoying this much more than McCranes Red Ribbon
I just tried it for the first time. The peppery attack as I first started smoking was tough to get my head around. Maybe it was the Perique, but the Burley was in full force. At Times I felt like I was smoking a bowl full of cigar wrappers. It's the first blend I've tried that I would probably never order. It did get better toward the bottom of the bowl and it was an easy smoke, requiring no relights and staying cool. Due to some other folks' negative comments on the board, I'd say this is a "love it or hate it" blend. It ain't for me but I could see it being a go-to for someone who was used to smoking cigs or cigars.
This blend is not my cup of tea for sure.
I like Haunted Bookshop and gave it a good review on TR.com. I like its' cousin Morley's Best (that substitutes Latakia for the Perique) even better.

"peppery attack" and "bowl of cigar wrappers" sums it up for me. I'm on the "no thanks" side of the fence for Haunted Bookshop. I do like PA and even Barbary Coast so burley and burley + perique are fine for me as far as ingredients. I think it's the mix in HB specifically I have a hard time with.

Yeah, it was tough to put my finger on it, but the first half of the bowl was pretty overwhelming and that is unusual for me. I like to smoke cigars, too, usually white-label Montecristos if I can get them but the taste of HB, reminded me of a Phillies Blunt wrapper. As I said before, it got better as I smoked it down, but I'll be moving on from this one.
I liked this blend when I tried it long ago. The only problem I bought the required amount (I think Cornell & Diehl was mandating 16 ounce orders or some large amount - unless you got tins and I don't think they were tinning alot ...and this wasn't available in a tin). I got my order - stored it away only to find a bad crop of mold growing in it 6 months later. It certainly looked "Haunted" then. Haven't tried it since - but will at some point.
