Looks like a Colt Walker he is holding. Had one at one time and its a heavy S.O.B. and a blast to shoot.

They're so damn heavy you have to carry two (one on each hip) as otherwise you'll walk lopsided!

And you have to keep using your thumb to cock the thing. Some folks can hit coins

tossed into the air without sighting (goes without saying, you couldn't sight). Most of

our ancestors were about 130 pounds soaking wet, but strong devils they were.

Great pic, I'm guessing that's your place this time? I imagine bringing the AR out on the New York rooftop probably wouldn't go over so well...

Great to see you back, Fadingdaylight!
Simon invited us up for the 4th and we had a great time up on the rooftop...pipes, hotdogs, adult beverages, politically incorrect conversation and an absolutely wonderful, crisp, breezy late afternoon...much like late summer in Canada. But I kept thinking that what was sorely missing was a 26.5mm flare pistol and few boxes of fodder.
So the next day, we ran that scenario at my place. Simon, Mr. 1920's and few of my other friends for a day of ammotherapy. Finished it off with seafood kabobs and lamb chops on the grill, Condor in ancient Meers and a few Victory Brewing Dirt Wolf 2x IPA's.
What a f*cking great country. Happy Birthday.

cuchulain, what size caps do you use? I'm using #11's and they seem too big, but I was told that #10's are too small and that they split.

As I remember I used size 10, but that was for an Uberti Walker. The only real Colt's that I've owned were S.A.A. Colt's.

Yep, size 10's for the replica I had fit well. Used wonder wads over and under the ball, less mess. It worked better as a bludgeoning device IMO as it wasn't very consistant in accuracy. My replica Remington Army .44 is a tack driver by comparison.

I don't know anything about this stuff, but it sure looks way cool.
Well, at least we haven't gotten into discussing having ones nipples being distorted and mushroomed by the no, no of dry firing a cap and ball! lol

Interesting tidbit, the Colt Walker was considered the most powerful handgun all the way into the 20th century and was only surpassed with the advent of the .357 Magnum. Just to give you an idea, the .44 cal. Colt Walker can be loaded with a 60 grain blackpowder charge whereas the .44 cal. Colt 1860 Army Revolver typically used a 30 grain blackpowder charge. I've enjoyed firing blackpowder revolvers and currently have 3 reproductions: 1860 Colt Army, 1851 Colt Navy, and an 1858 Remington. Of the three, the .44 cal. 1858 Remington is the most accurate. I also like the fact that you can change out the cylinders in the Remington much easier than the Colts so if you have spare cylinders, you can simply slip out the empty and drop in a fresh loaded cylinder and your back in business!
