Hey,

I was just wondering if there is a list of Artisan pipe makers? if not who are your guys favorites?

Links to their websites would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking of getting a custom Artisan pipe after my marine corps training is complete.

Cheers!

Gunnar

I forgot to add who my favorites are. Numero uno for me is Rad Davis, in my opinion no one is making better looking, or smoking pipes for the prices he charges. I also have pipes from Bruce Weaver, Scott Thile, Brian Ruthenberg, Mike Butera, Jody Davis and Steve Morrissete. All of my artisan pipes smoke cool and dry, all have really comfortable vulcanite stems and they are all a step above my factory pipes like Ashton, Ferndown, Dunhill, Willmer, Charatan, Ardor, Caminetto and Upshalls.

I would add Nate King to the list, @Natekingpipes. com. He lives in Indianapolis, IN., he just got the Parting Shot of P&T winter 2012. I have one and I know BigVan has one, I could not be happier with it.

Snubbed again! What does it take to get a little recognition? I advertised on this site for over a year. Not even a mention. Oh well, maybe someday. I'm not getting any younger, ya know.
Here's a sample:

Hi Craig.
Please take no offense from the omission of your name from my list. In my original post, I stated that the list was made up of pipe makers whose work I owned and could personally vouch for.
And so far, I just haven't picked up one of your pipe.
At least not yet.

Additional American makers include:
Premal Chheda

Lee Erck
www.von-erck.com
Both men create beautiful pipes.

http://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/new/adam-davidson/ Another real talent is Adam Davidson. I see him on FB and his pipes are artistic, innovative and beautiful. Judging from friends and fellow Morley and NYCPC members, they also smoke very well. I can't find a web site but here's info from SP.
A real artist, who had a cover pipe in P&T and who attends shows and the Kaywoodie Holiday Slow Smoke events is Rolando Negoita. Hearth & Home has named one of their blends after Rolando. A very intriguing new development he had a number of gorgeous examples of yesterday is his Conducta series, which reengineers the calabash attribute of a cooling chamber. http://atelierrolando.com/
Then across the water is Chris Askwith. I have a lovely morta that he did several years ago. http://www.askwithpipes.com/
While we're over there, Dirk Claessen who moved from the Low Countries to sunny Spain is another of my favorites. http://claessenpipes.com/
And then there's the ex-expatriot Trever Talbert who moved back from France to NC. http://www.talbertpipes.pair.com/about.shtml I just got my second Ligne Bretagne, this one from BriarBid.

Boy, am I ever embarrassed. I apologize to all. I just re-read the title of the thread. I thought it said "American" pipe makers, not "Artisan" pipe makers. My error.
True, I am an American, but I'm certainly no Artisan. I consider myself just a pipe maker of basically classic shapes. By contrast, an Artisan pipe maker tends to create shapes on his or her own, outside of the norm.
Nope, I'm not an Artisan by any means. So you were correct in not including my name among the true Artisans.
No offense taken.
Best to all.

Craig,
Read my original post again. My list (which is the bulk of this post and has been reprinted several times since I created it) contains the names of American Artisans/Pipe Makers WHOSE WORK I OWN AND CAN RECOMMEND.
Your name (and others) was left off because, since I don't own any of your pipes, I can't recommend them. There's no value judgement being made here.

It's reversamitized psycholothingy - next time you want to buy a pipe, you'll feel a strange pull to Craig's site. I've told him that this strategy is both dangerous and illegal but there's no stopping him.
This post brought to you by Briar Sweat and Tears.

I better back off this subject, or Kevin will banish me from the site. I'm already pushing the envelope by posting my website address. But...you guys started it.
And I'm totally serious about the Artisan vs. basic pipe maker thing. My abilities lean toward the classic shapes and Artisans tend more toward the avant garde. I'm a machinist/draftsman by trade and my mind works on a more linear, mechanical level. Proper construction, shape, proportion and finish are what I strive to acheive more than artistic flair.
So there, 'nuff said. :puffy:

Oh my goodness.
JPBerg has bought more BST pipes than anyone. This is his idea of funny.
And certainly we should add Dan Mustran's site - good call Yavuz!
