Remember when I said that I was done buying pipes for the year, unless a 440 shape showed up? Well.....
This 440 Tradition popped up last week. I can't recall the last time a 440 showed up on Ebay. I think the last one was in in the summer of 2013 (a Blue Riband, purchased by Neill Archer Roan). The pipe had some serious cake build-up, but showed a lot of promise on the bowl and stem. Usually that heavy cake actually helps protect the briar, but you never know until it is removed.
The pipe was delivered today and looks even better in person. The stem has only light marks and oxidation. The three piece C stem logo is cracked a little, but intact. There is only one bump on the bowl and the nomenclature is very strong. Stem fitment is also very good. I started working on the pipe this evening and should have it completed tomorrow.
With the straight line "Comoy's" and round "Made In London" (round) "England" (straight line) stamping, I would date this one from the 1960's to the merger in approximately 1982.

Al, I'm glad you got that one.
I was watching that auction, but it jumped out of my comfort zone given my reduced kitty after the 5XL purchase last week, I'm so pleased to know that it made its way into good hands!
Well done, pal.

I am truly amazed sir, congratulations. You have the magic touch when you go to find pipes this last couple of years. This one looks amazing and I look forward to the resto pics.
