As a rule I go for non-filtered pipes for the unrestricted air flow, but I do have one. It's a lovely old Medico Jet Stream that takes the standard Medico / Dr Plumbs filter. With the rest of my pipes, I run 3 or 4 pipe cleaners through them soon after smoking to remove the tar and moisture, which keeps them fairly clean. With the Jet Stream I need to wait until its cold before splitting it to clean.
When I do my monthly deep clean, the Jet is always much dirtier. I guess that waiting before cleaning means the tars harden and less is removed with the regular pipe cleaners.
So, how do other filter pipe smokers keep theirs clean? Any tips?

I am guessing you dont leave the filter in? I have some that I do and some that I dont, use q-tips for the more open portions of the stem and shank and it will clean a little quicker.

I tend to smoke the same pipe 2 or 3 times a day, so the same filter will be in for that amount of time. I'll give some q-tips a try - thanks :)
