I'll read the articles later... but ive read these theories many years ago.
A good book to read, for those with open minds, is "The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross"

Now I have to find the book. Being of a non mainstream religion myself, I find it interesting to read about the holiday.
Wiccans, Druids, and other nature based religions all celebrate around Christmas, usually on the winter solstice, which falls a few days before Christmas.

I smoked a bowl of Victorian Standard while waiting for the sun to rise on the 21st... Gotta say, smoking before sunrise makes it easy to check whether the pipe's gone out or not!
I read both of those articles years ago - nice to see they're still around, and popping up in unexpected places.
