So cool! I have been watching this video on Instagram and had to share here for those who don’t use the app. Chris continues to push the boundaries.

    That is almost mesmerizing.

I wondered how those were made.

Arcing through char. Great use of a destructive force. I'll have to get one to smoke at fire scenes.

I've seen those. They're cool, but not sure I want a pipe like that for myself. A guitar with that treatment might be interesting.

Ken, absolutely. I actually hate those. If I want a guitar that looks old and beat up, I'm going to buy a new guitar and let it get that way. I'm certainly not spending between 3 and 8 grand for one that already looks like it was thrown down a flight of stairs a few times.

Mesmerizing is a good description. I have wondered if it compromises the integrity of the briar. Probably not, and hey, it's a Morgan Bones, so it's not a huge gamble if you like the lightning finish.

I have a friend that does this. He uses a ballast from a neon sign, to provide the electricity.

Either a neon sign transformer or one from a microwave but have to be very careful they put out a lot of juice

A neon sign transformer can kick out 7,500 to 12,000 volts with ease. When the GTO wire arcs off on chicken wire or some other metal medium the result is instant fire.

Chris spent a lot of time determining his power source and how to do this safely on such a small piece of material. I own one, and they are very cool to look at.

Yeah, the videos I have watched were for making a coffee table using this technique with a transformer from a microwave. I don't have the nerve to try this one out myself, but the coffee tables I've seen that use it look amazing! Some even pour glow in the dark liquid into the canals produced so that it glows in the dark in that lightning pattern.

I will try to remember to snag one this evening. It is a bent oval shanked Rhodesian Bones. It was a one off unique shape he got in and decided to apply the lightning finish.
