3AM ponderings, who makes Charatan pipes now? I've seen some pretty nice looking ones on AlPascia at mid-range prices ($200-$400)

According to Pipedia, Colin Fromm makes them for Dunhill. Now if only we could find out who makes Dunhill pipes...

I read or heard somewhere their bowls are initially turned in Spain and finished in the UK.

I am under the impression it was always the case - stummels turned outside of the UK and the pipes finished in England?
Hah! Joke's on you, then. France, Italy, Spain, Aunt Hermime's basement, a portion of Dunhill pipe manufacture has been outsourced to a variety of places since the beginning of the Marque. Sometimes it's been a small portion, sometimes a very large portion, and evidently pretty much all of it these days.
At the end of the day, Dunghill pipes (White Spot included) are just another machine made pipe like so many other marques.
People are paying hefty amounts of money just to have that white plastic spot on their pipes whereas for the same outlay two or more other machine made pipes of comparable quality can be procured.
Hell's teeth, some handmade artisan pipes can be had for less than a Dunghill machine made pipe :roll:

Dunhill does have a rich shape chart and I usually stay away from new production Dunhills. I collect old vintage ones.
